Info on array management?

Question

Posted (edited)

I'm sort of familiar with various raid levels.

Lots of folks aren't though. In either case, Are there HexOS specific guides on what types of parity/if you can add/remove drives, things like that. If the OS is supposed to be simpler to work with, maybe we need some examples of what can be done with X drives, X+1 drives, etc.

Lots of stuff mention TrueNAS Scale under the hood, which is fine though doesn't say much about the supported storage configurations in the HexOS UI.

I'm not explaining my question all too well but is this sort of technical information available yet?

I guess I'm not really sure yet what HexOS can do at a more precise level.

Currently we are locked into a RAIDz1 pool setup, but more levels of parity will be available later on, as well as the ability to add additional drives to expand a pool.

I am told we will also be able to upgrade pools by replacing individual drives with larger units one at a time until all drives in the pool are the new capacity, at which point the pool size will expand all at once.

  • EG: If you were to take a RAIDz1 pool with 8x 10TB drives (70TB usable) and sequentially swap those drives out for 20TB units, then when you are done the available pool size will jump up to 140TB
