  1. I don't have a mirror created. It was just a consideration that with 2 disks, Hex will offer me only a mirror, but I need a RAIDz1 with 2 disks so that I can expand later. Everything is just a test and we are not supposed to transfer any data, that's what the developers said because it's a beta version and not a fully functional OS.
  2. What if I only have 2 drives and later want to add another 2? If I start with 2 disks, Hex automatically selects the mirror option to which I cannot add additional disks. So you recommend to start 2 drives RAIDz1 to which I can already add another 2 drives? RAIDz1 is built for 3 disks, but I heard that it also works with 2 disks. Of course, I will have to do it through TrueNAS because Hex does not have these functions displayed in the UX, but these functions are in the background.
  3. I am not technically proficient in IT. Assembling the hardware and installing the OS is a breeze compared to setting up a TrueNAS. I wanted to run Jellyfin, but I found out that I have to grant permission for Jellyfin to see my media on another drive. My question is, will I have to grant permissions in HexOS as well? I just want to install and use and not worry about it.
  4. Nabu Casa is remote access for the Home assistant, and we mean remote access for HexOS. Even if it worked, there is no law that prohibits a third party, for example Nabu Casa, from looking into my privacy. Man is a curious creature, and Nabu Casa has stated in its conditions that it can provide access to state authorities and the government. That doesn't sound like 100% anonymity to me.
  5. Apparently, I had high expectations when I hoped that it would be at a different level of development. At this moment, it's just a nice UX for which I praise, but nothing more. It does not do what they describe on their website. There isn't even a section on beta releases on the forum, and it's the first time I've heard that there could be a beta 2 release. As previously mentioned, the redundancy of the boot disk is of great importance. Support for a wider range of RAID in Hex and pool import should not be missing. Finally remote access, otherwise it's just a brick on the shelf. Don't take it the wrong way, these are just challenges that we believe you will overcome. Keep going turn your vision into reality.
  6. For example, such UGREEN Nas has a mobile or desktop application that serves for remote access via a generated token. Although I did not understand how it is with granting access to a friend, and the fact that I have access to the interface through this token does not mean that I have remote access to the installed applications. I don't know how it works, I just noticed that new systems like UGREEN or FNOS go this way. It's probably a better way than Tailscale, which I would have to manually set for each friend or family. In addition, I noticed that these systems have Internet applications such as a gallery, a movie application and a file manager in the user interface, so through this mobile application and token you have access to everything directly from one interface and you do not have to open 10 applications separately.

    Hex Team

Question for the HexOS development team. How have you progressed, what are you currently working on? I know it's a lot and it's not easy. Should I come back in a few months? I need it to work and Hex can't do anything except create a pool and install 2 apps. I bought the hardware to be functional and not dusty and inactive. Can you please update the forum on the development progress?
  8. Hexos promises remote access from anywhere. I wonder how they intend to achieve this. Maybe they integrate their own vpn with automatic port allocation for other apps or maybe they play around with a reverse proxy. Anyway, if I want to give access to 20 people, I can't physically go to each one and set up access. From this point of view, it is impractical.
  9. Access the software keys on other websites. Invest in advertising to reach a wider audience. Add a program for investing in a project. Expand the development team. Inform about progress in the development of os.

  10. I want remote access to be simple and safe even for older family members who are not technically proficient. They will not register in some VPN for their access to work. They just want to open a plex or immich and at most ask for an ip address and let it work. How to do it? Of course, they don't live under the same roof and the most they can do is write an IP address or a web domain.
  11. Hi, will HexOS be stable enough that I won't have to open TrueNAS? TrueNAS is hard to set up and I want to rely on HexOS and not have to open TrueNAS when something doesn't work.
  12. HexOS is in its infancy and it is pointless to create additional localizations until the system is developed. Truenas uses the i18n translation method and apparently Hex will too. Today, AI intelligence will also help you with this. Or Crowdin. First of all, it's about HexOS being reliable even for those who don't know how to use Truenas or don't want to bother at all, so their primary axis will be Hex.
  13. With HexOS I am forced to use 3 drives otherwise it won't work properly? I have an ssd (HexOS) and one hdd and I want to be able to use the system without the need for RAID. I understand it is better to have RAID, but I have a 24tb hdd and another one of the same size costs a lot of money.
  14. In several operating systems (UGREEN OS, FNOS, IstoreOS), I'm not sure which one specifically, but I saw an option to add your own web domain for remote access to the server and applications. I will probably use them temporarily because Hex 1.0 may not arrive until half a year from now and I need to be up and running as soon as possible.
  15. It is absolute nonsense to have a time limit.
  16. I tried installing Jellyfin and file manager in TrueNAS. The problem was that I couldn't find the location of the media on the HDD in Jellyfin. Jellyfin couldn't find the hdd path at all and the same was true with file manager. I understood that the error is in granting permissions. These settings are a headache for me. Unfortunately, I have not graduated from an IT school. But I want to use the advantages of ZFS and the system is solid as a rock. To what extent will these difficult settings be simplified?
  17. HexOS is an extension of TrueNAS and it does not support different disk sizes. Always refers to the smallest disk used. Modifications would have to be made to the TrueNAS source code and thus the collaboration would not be able to continue for further updates.
  18. Hi does deck.hexos.com work as remote server access? I assume that most users want to go remotely. Provide access to family and friends who are not in the local network.
  19. I mean, will I be dependent on your server and can't get to HexOS other than through deck.hexos.com. Coincidentally, your company goes out of business and I am without HexOS.
  20. Hi can you clarify the future planned features of HexOS 1.0? Will HexOS be a native OS?
  21. Hi, I tried HexOS and there is a lot to improve. This is a classic TrueNAS and the HexOS GUI is accessed through deck.hexos.com. You always get to TrueNAS via the default IP and that's a headache again. I want to get directly to HexOS from ip and be able to switch the gui to TrueNAS in it if I want to. Another time, the first installation ended unsuccessfully because I did not have the disks installed. I didn't get through the HexOS initial setup without the discs. After restarting HexOS, it failed to reconnect with TrueNAS.
  22. It's a headache in TrueNAS. For example, I wanted to determine the correct path of my media through Jellyfin, and it couldn't find the path on the HDD due to wrong permission settings. He only uploaded the system folders and did not see the external hdd outside the system. I don't want to deal with this.
  23. It is not a big science to compile the deck.hexos.com website into a responsive application.

    Os

If I pay, I want to use the system right away and not wait for the system to be completed and it will be delivered to me as soon as possible. Will I get OS right away?
