I'd get both if I could but depending on release time - such a fun little device. I love this kind of innovation. I can recall numerous times myself and others have said something like "why is KVM so damn hard to get right" or "why does ipmi have to have suck" lol...

Literally had that recently when getting my remote server, bought a second hand system with a board that had built in IPMI, but then it doesn't work, as to use the software even in a browser, it needs Java that's so old it's blocked across ALL OS's... 🫠 i even created a windows 7 VM to attempt to use it to no avail haha...

    Jet KVM > Plug & Play! 🙏🏻

The last I heard (it's been a while, but I was unable to locate the mail to check the date) was that they were going to offer it via their own website initially, to limited regions, with Amazon hopefully not long after.

Yeah found the last email i received March 26th

    Retail Availability
Retail is starting to take shape. While we’re running just a few weeks behind our original timeline, we’re very close. Right now, we’re finalizing the last pieces to make sure the retail experience is smooth and solid from day one.

The initial launch will be exclusive to our website at jetkvm.com. We know many of you are hoping for Amazon availability as well - especially for the faster shipping and more flexible return options - and we’re actively working on that. Discussions are ongoing, but not finalized yet.

That said, we’ve put a lot of effort into making the checkout and shipping experience on our site as close as possible to what you’d expect from Amazon - fast fulfillment, straightforward returns, and responsive support. More on that soon.

I've found it confusing on whether or not kickstarter is still accepting orders or if I should just wait for retail?

I believe it'll be on Amazon within the next few weeks. But kickstarter is over.

It is trying to pull a TON of meta-data to associate with all of the movies.

Depends how you set up your library settings / scheduled tasks. If you've got it creating thumbnails, credit detection and other tasks when new content is added, then yes on first install it'll take a while!

But likewise, you could allocate more CPU resource to Plex to speed things up?

My 10TB of data was done in 12-24 hours

Maybe? Depends on your risk tolerance, I guess. THIS Google study showed iffy results at best. And THIS guys logic is kinda why I was asking; to get a sense if others in the community were as proactive as the linked article.

I can see the benefit, but it also comes with a PITA factor of time which, if measured against failed drives, potential lost data and stupid RMA's might make sense.

    Interesting, i guess my 'newbie' approach and outlook would be;

    • Buy 2 or more drives
    • Run conveyance test to ensure not DOA.
    • If passed > Run Long SMART test
    • If passed > Ok to deploy inside a Raid Pool with at least 1 drive failure acceptable
    • If drive fails within RMA Window > Return / replace 'Quickly'
    • if drive fails outside RMA window but Inside warranty window > Return / replace 'longer'
    • If driver fails outside Warranty window > Open wallet...

Again seeing all the drive failure charts, you'll never be able to predict 'when' a drive will fail. but most likely it'll be DOA / within the first year. OR it could die 5-10 years later...
As long as you've got the built in redundancy and backups, you should be ok.

  6. In my 3rd test system (Qnap Ts-251+) i was forced to use usb drives as i was unable to use the embedded proprietary m.2 ssd for boot.

So i got x2 Sandisk Ultra fit usb's, I then installed the OS in mirrored mode for redundancy.
Speed wise, no major sluggishness other than the device itself being fairly old now.

And as it's a 3rd test system i'm not concerned about failures ect. BUT like others have said, it's not ideal and if you are doing it, at least run 2 or more for redundancy.
or better yet a usb > sata cable then use a 2.5" ssd.

The point of a HDD burn-in is exactly that, to catch manufacturer defects (usually bad physical sectors) before you write your data to it, especially if you choose to use refurbished drives.

Would not just running a Conveyance + Long smart test be enough?

How are you implementing HA? I've heard that having a separate system is more stable than running it in a VM.

So i personally have HASS running on an RPI5. And have the NUT Server + Client running on that seamlessly (Once set up, again docs are not ideal, had to manually specify the usb port.)
I started my HASS journey running on a VM on a mac mini, but prefer running bare metal for stability sake, and simplicity of attaching devices.

But when i set up my remote Hex server at my parents, i installed HASS on the VM inside the TNUI (Tried the App, but too many network issues) + VM is super easy to passthrough the usb device for the UPS + A zigbee dongle.

  9. @JaredG Out of curiosity do you have Home Assistant?

I personally ended up connecting my UPS to this and then i use the truenas integration so i can shut it down with automations if needed. As i had a lot of issues with the UPS setup in truenas and i think at one point there was a bug where it wouldn't show any telemetry.

@Sonic & @Theo What are you guys doing once you've received the refurb drives prior to installation? I've kept all my drives new but that does get hella expensive. I'm about to purchase SpinRite not only to help maintain drive health but also to pre-check refurbs if I buy those.

(and BTW, I'm a HUGE fan of Dr Parted which can address many drive issues but just doesn't have the capabilities of SpinRite on error correction - at least not as easily - or so I believe.)

As mine were manufactured refurbished I was just doing conveyance + short test, to ensure not DOA. Then a long test.

once completed just set up the standard smart tests schedules and let them be. No issues to date.

Check out the new Prusa Core One with the MMU3. Checks all our boxes and it offers unparalleled upgradeablity. Prusa does offer an upgrade Path to the latest printer each time and this way to can easily upgrade and don't need to buy a new printer each time a new model is released.

Does it, on the site it looked like you couldn't get multi material support?

I have a creality K1 and I can recommend this 3D printer. The only downside for me is that the printbed is not big enough for 10 inch rack parts.  I don't have the multi fillament feeder, but that's an option.

The K1 max and the K2 plus combo (with multi filament feeder) are also available and have a bigger printbed. There is a pretty big price difference between the K1 ($389) and the K2 plus Combo ($1499).

I don't have experience with other brands.

Yeah was considering the K2 Combo, steep price compared to the Bambu Lab P1S 3D.... Also the Prusa core one, but doesn't have multi material support.

  13. Hey All, i'm sure a lot of this community are in the hacker / maker space.

I'm thinking of getting a 3D Printer, and was considering a Bamboo labs until their recent issues...

Thus, Of the competitors, what would people suggest?

    My preferred requirements are;

    • Enclosed case
    • Multi filament feeder
    • A good mix of fast <> high resolution (Potential to configure either way
    • Ideally as plug and play as possible, but still options to upgrade / customise
  14. Yeah it's expensive in the UK atm. i personally got my dives from https://serverpartdeals.com/ - i got the manufacturer refurbished 20tb Exos drives, so unlike what @Sonic pointed to you are somewhat more guaranteed to be getting good drives, unlike other places... Plus they come with a 2 year warranty.

IF you really want the longer warranty then your best bet is to get new drives with the ~5 year warranty.

Tax wise, i paid for the duty included in the shipping for simplicity, arguably the price can come close / match some drives on other sites in the uk with the tax added, but again depends on what you're after. For me getting high capacity drives was more worth it vs lower capacity ones.

  15. Local Hex UI is coming and was confirmed. it will arrive with the launch of V1 in the coming months.

    Quote from the hexos.com roadmap;

    Local UI/UX

One area in which we have received a lot of feedback has been in regards to a local UI/UX. While we still believe this is the right solution for initial server setup/configuration and for most remote access needs, we have decided to make a Local UI/UX and we are committed to delivering this with our 1.0 release. This means that even during Command Deck maintenance windows, you will still have access to the HexOS UI for system management.

image.png.968fa7fdca14d7ea2a506a5312042a1e.png here is the ISO file name that I've removed followed by image.png.5dc6d970eb73ecbb607972e0706825a3.png

Now, here's the thing...the above error repeats so many times that it finally dies with:

    image.png.bc0f818b6f574801f92d378fd8259c1b.png

Why the hell would a torrent error out on a .srt file? This happens ALL the time.

This looks like a permission error / it can't find & open the folder on the NAS?

  17. Got it, first thing that would come to mind is if it's directly downloading to the NAS but over wireless, if there's connection issues that could be causing failed packets ect.

Firstly, any reason you've chosen not to load the Downloader onto the NAS?

If not the manual option is to download direct to the laptop, then manually move over (Or add a completed download location if your downloader supports it)

Although, a simpler was would be to use the ARR's to simplify the process.
