  1. Hey all. Q3 update coming Monday. Bunch of other goodies and content with it.

  2. Hey it would be cool to have a straight forward way to install Nextcloud (e.g. the all in one edition https://nextcloud.com/blog/how-to-install-the-nextcloud-all-in-one-on-linux/) on HexOS. I set it up myself on my homelab, but the setup was not as easy and while the software itself works great, I'm not as satisfied with my implementation. It offers a lot of features with a client that is available on a lot of devices already, essentially substituting Cloud storage, Google Calender, Contacts, Office products, Slack (e.g. for small businesses) and as I just saw even LLM like ChatGPT. This would add huge additional value to HexOS, since you easily could substitute a lot of subscriptions that way, while having enormous privacy benefits, a thing the target audience of HexOS would surely profit of. Especially if there is also a way to safely expose it to the internet.

  3. First installation of HexOS, so it is a fresh install. Installed Plex without issues, and it setup the Performance directories/locations on the SSD pool, and the Capacity directory/location on the HDD pool, along with all the Media directories/locations on the HDD pool. Install Immich > results in "Failed to install app "immich"" - Failed to install app: App Instal Job Failed: [EINVAL] values.storage.use_old_storage_config: Field was not expected. I have tried a few times in between server restarts, and copying data over from my current NAS to the HexOS Nas I have never used TrueNas, and hesitant to go into it. So not sure where/how to access more detailed logs if people ask for them; but willing to learn. Appreciate any help you can provide. Running on HP z4g4, with 32GB RAM. Have an NVMe with HexOS installed, have a second single 512GB NVMe as the SSD pool (495.26GB usable), and four x 8TB HDDs as the HDD pool, of 23.12TB usable If I was to log into TrueNas, I did see that it wanted a username and password; is this the username/email that I use for HexOS? as when I set up the password through the installation, it did not ask for a username to go with it.

  4. Feature Suggestion: UPS Integration for Automatic Shutdown Enable Hexos to natively support UPS devices for automatic safe shutdown during power outages. • Benefits: Prevent data loss, monitor power status, and improve reliability. • Implementation: Integrate protocols like apcupsd or NUT for broad UPS compatibility and allow configurable shutdown actions. 5. The Q3 update. Another thread mentioned it's scheduled for Monday. It's not in any way an "Immich patch," it's just a general release. The team aren't great at communication, so we'll just have to see what drops when it does. If it's anything like the Q2 update, most won't even notice it.

  6. "world-class", "amazing", "frantic growth" are curious to read on the company's own forums. HexOS is much better understood as a software Kickstarter: influencers that hardly use the product, ordinary folks buying primarily because of a discount (not because betas are actually worth $100), promises of improved communication after slow updates, unexpected delays, scattered updates, etc. Many "make software accessible" enthusiasts do expect things ike reliable software with regular bug fixes; reliably-timed updates; unified & direct communication with users (thorough changelogs, docs, tutorials etc.) etc. HexOS is not an alpha nor an open-source project waiting for volunteers; these deliverables ought to be coming soon with at most ~90 days before 1.0 ships. How Eshtek communicates with users (not with the public) about Q3 will be a great signal of how things are shaping up, what has improved, and what has not. Like everyone, excited for the Q3 release on Monday.

  7. Those are very weird examples. HexOS isn't a movie or video game. It's about as different from those as it gets. And, even so, HexOS has a world class marketing campaign behind it already. In reality, marketing matters very little to a niche, but excellent (or terrible) product that is supposed to be used daily for years and years. Word of mouth among enthusiasts matters much more. And that will come naturally, if the product is amazing.

  8. If the lack of communication kills interest in the project though.

  9. Thank you for the detailed response to my vent post. Sorry, This is the first time I’ve logged in since writing it. Also responding on an ipad so little more difficult to respond. I did want to take a moment to comment on two pieces. re: devlogs - it may seem like I’m stuck on that, but it’s not because I’m a zealot about such things or even a wish to read long technical updates. Really it was more about delivering to the community an ongoing sentiment of progress and altering the perception that arises. I really wasn’t advocating for your team to all start blogging things here. More for a single person to deliver even a two-liner like “we made significant progress the last two weeks on encryption. No new delays.” Or “Murphy hit us this week and we’ve had to shift our timeline. Added three weeks to our expected ship.” - yes, I hate doing the devlogs myself , but once Iwas forced to start doing it the pressure and expectations surrounding project expectations made life so much better. Thus my push, but I totally understand your position on this. re: apps - There isn’t one specific thing I was looking to create or port as it all depended on immediate use case (back then it was a friendly working version of home assistant). More-so it was a ‘hey, we can do these things for and as a community while you guys focus on the core/more important stuff. Thanks again! I’ll try and stay a little more updated with what’s going on. Might boot up the machine I was using and ch3ckout the latest updates if I get a chance later today.
