  1. I think I get what the ask is here. If I do frequent (un)installation of apps, then tracking "what IP did I assign" or any other fields that a wizard might prompt for, if they are pre-populated with my prior entries then there is less chance for me inputting different data. @FangerZero - I actually think this is a good idea as it would reduce app re-installation errors. I'd bubble this request back up once we see get a little further down the line.

  2. I imagine Hex aimed at beginners where you have to hold their hand every step of the way.

  3. Hi Dylan, I'm really happy with it. It feels very solid and stable. Of course, there are a few things that could be improved, such as making the HDDs hot-swappable and adding 10 GbE networking. But at this price point, the WTR Pro is more than okay. It offers a great balance of performance and energy efficiency. This is an ideal machine for starting with a home server. I have some experience with Chinese mini PC brands, and often their customer service, BIOS/software quality, communication, and documentation are not up to the standard we’re used to in the EU/US. That said, Aoostar is doing a great job trying to improve in these areas. I don’t think they’re a very large company yet. By the way, the BIOS on the WTR Pro is very extensive. In summary: very satisfied! By the way, it seems there’s a 6-bay WTR with 10 GbE coming in Q1 2025.

  4. @Archion, I agree with Dylan above. Personally, I love when people are re-using HW instead of e-wasting. It's practical, amazing and environmental friendly! The only downsize might be power-efficiency, and even for that I am not sure! I also like that you replace an "EOL Synology DS412+" with what will be a beast 😛 haha. Keep it on! That being said, I also used 2nd hand all parts, except of the drives. I hope that my system will last me for 5-9 years and it can only get two drives (consequently they are mirrored). So just to be on the safe side I decided to get new drives.

  6. Tagging @ubergeek as I *think* he might be a Dell guy. (apologies if he's not and that is unhelpful 🤓)

  7. No worries, the WTR Pro comes in both an AMD Ryzen 7 5825U version and an Intel N100 version. Both are very energy-efficient while still offering quite a bit of power. I personally have the Ryzen version, and I'm very happy with it. For Plex/transcoding, the N100 performs slightly better. You can find a review of the WTR Pro on Hardware Haven: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ct4yewC7mKA. That said, the right choice depends heavily on your use case. I also have a mini PC with an N100 in my network, which I use for Proxmox with several Docker containers. I'm very satisfied with it. Plenty of performance with very low energy consumption.

  8. I'm running an Ubuntu VM which is hosting all of my docker containers, it's running Hexos to do NAS things and I will migrate my Windows Server over to proxmox as well, the windows VM will only run when I need to do windows thingy things. (Mainly Gameservers)

  9. Using Tailscale with Immich to be able to upload pictures from my phone to the server anywhere any time is just great.

  10. It's very usefull, i really like to have whole server anywhere. But as noob i was expecting that anyone with no TailScale software can access my server shared files using TailScale IP for example http://tailscale-ip-adress-off-myserv:420/immich/sharedfile.mp4. Yeah security issue and all that...

  11. I believe integrating Home Assistant with HexOS could be a game-changer for the operating system, offering functionality that is sorely lacking in almost all other OS platforms today. A Home Assistant integration would allow users to monitor and manage their NAS more effectively. Imagine being able to track critical metrics such as system uptime, array health, disk health checks, and the overall status of your storage systems — all from within Home Assistant. Furthermore, adding control features would significantly enhance the user experience. It would be fantastic if users could automate tasks like rebooting or stopping/starting applications, VMs, or containers directly through Home Assistant. Additionally, automating disk spin-downs during off-peak hours for power savings would be a powerful and eco-friendly feature. The potential of Home Assistant integration is vast, and it's difficult to fully capture all the possibilities in a single topic. However, the core idea is simple: having such an integration, with continuous updates and new features, would be a major advantage for HexOS. While most other operating systems either lack similar functionality or offer only basic, limited capabilities, HexOS could stand out by providing a more comprehensive, user-friendly, and flexible solution.

  12. Don't you worry! We have plans for you brave testers out there to keep you on a "beta" track that lets you test out the goodies as we're building them. Basically we will have feature-tagging so we can enroll certain users in new beta features for testing before they are ready for the stable track. When we get to that phase, more will be revealed 😉

  13. Managed to fix the problem. Go into True NAS interface from Settings in Hex. Go to 'Apps' menu, click 'Configuration' drop down button, click 'Choose Pool', select your storage pool then click 'Choose' - the app service will then start, go back to HexOS and install Immich again and all will work.

  14. First debug step would be to go into the Truenas ui and watch the running jobs (top right corner) and see what shows / fails as you click install on hex. Additionally, ensure you created your Hex install with the pools at the same time. some people have created their hex install, skipped the pool creation and this skipped the docker install/setup, meaning apps won't get installed correctly.
