I thought "Early adopter Tax" was because you have to report all the bugs and do all the initial testing. So they pay in their time too 😛 I didn't think there was any of that kind of logic TBH, sales are just what makes business sense. Buyers remorse is more to do with the perceived value, and in IMO for a lifetime licenses and the scope of the product in that time, the value will be there at any price. That said at $300 of my dolllarydoos, I don't think I could justify buying it for someone who may just use a share folder only, but maybe subscription pricing will make it more reasonable for them to buy it.

I can confirm that upgrading my router was pretty easy. All I needed to do was plug the new router in, plug my nas in, and then update my router to have the same IP as the old router, and as soon as the router IP updated my nas was back on the internet and I could connect exactly the same way as I could with the old router.

Appreciate the perspective, Todd. The point about using the second license for a non-production test environment is actually a really good selling point I hadn't considered. To play devil's advocate on the pricing/community aspect: I hear the argument a lot that lowering the price (even temporarily) "punishes" early backers, but I feel like that ignores the standard "sale" logic we see everywhere else. Usually, the trade-off is Time vs. Money. Early adopters pay a premium to have the tech now, while latecomers pay less but had to wait a long time to get in. Every time I buy a Pixel they have a sale a few months later, but I am ok with the "early adopter tax" because I got a few months of use out of it lol. I don't think offering a holiday discount on a single license would devalue the investment existing users made—they've had the utility of the OS this whole time, whereas I'm still sitting on the sidelines! Thanks again for the reply and insight. I will keep a close eye on the site and see if it ever does go down to where I can fit it into my budget.

Support for MDADM volumes and other file systems

I would love to be able to run a hexos VM on my esxi box, and use it as a drop in replacement for OMV. I use mdadm arrays and mergerfs on top of that. But there's no possible way for me to build a new system and transfer one array at a time into the hexos install. -

And that is what I did which is why I asked in the first place! Don't assume your consumers are not both inquisitive and intuitive. Just because you didn't think someone would try that doesn't NOBODY will.

It's always clearly described who gets what, on the main page, in the forum post and in the email. The only way you don't know the different prices is if you just blindly click a link in this forum without reading the corresponding posts. 🙂

Just out of curiosity, did you click on the link? There is nothing I could see that says existing customers only. While other places in the forum seem to say that, you would think the place you make the purchase would be the most clearly marked with any restrictions. Sorry you missed the first offer because I think this product will make a lot of entry and mid level NAS admin wannabe's successful. But Eshtek has a lot of maturing to do to go to the next level and this is one small example. They will get a marketing person who looks at the releases from a standpoint other than a developer and a customer service person who thinks like a buyer not a developer who worked on the product. When they announce the monthly cost they have mentioned before, it may fit your budget better. Yes, it will eventually rise over the $99 but not immediately. And you will be in a position to see if you really even want the product. Though I can't imagine this really happening, but if I decide that HexOS is to dependent on me going into TrueNAS and not what I want, I'm still in fro $198. I'm sure there is more to come but when they went from $99 to $199, it really tied their hands. And it would be a real mess to change that now.

I made sure to whitelist the HexOS email address after I missed the first sale due to spam filtering, the most recent email is what brought me here As I'm not a returning customer I'm not eligible for the $99 licence, anything more than two digits is unfortunately unaffordable for me 😞 I'm still really excited about HexOS, even if I'm unable to use it, hopefully it sparks improvements across the whole ecosystem

Changing immich passwords from hexos admin or truenas?
Mobius replied to Maestroc's question in OS & Features
seems like according to immich documentation you need to use their server commands to do this. https://docs.immich.app/administration/server-commands/ -
just clarifying, this was an existing install of hexos and you found yourself unable to connect to it. You then unclaimed it, hoping it would help you find and reclaim it? have you made any network changes recently?
-
Yes it should still be accessible.
-
Yes our holiday sale allows existing customers to purchase additional licenses at $99 each. We do have a banner at the top of the forums page in green and an announcement post

From my perspective, I invested for software gain and Linus invested for software and monetary gain. Sometimes investments don't pay off, but I believed and still believe in the direction enough to risk it. As a software developer myself, learning is part of the journey, so it's actually a good sign they are forthcoming with what they learnt and have the confidence to continue, IMO. As long as there is progress being made, it's just a matter of enough before resources run out.

I did an uninstall, remove all datasets, reinstall and reload the data. I would guess the deleting of the old datasets purged all my data but I have backups.
-
I did a couple times actually. I screwed the first reinstall when I messed with the install script. The second was a standard curated install. I didn't follow any guide. I just uninstalled, deleted the old datasets then reinstalled. No idea why this is so complicated because it couldn't have been easier for me.

Exciting! Will the TrueNAS interface still be accessible once HexOS Local is out? What are the long-term plans for the TrueNAS interface anyways? Will it always be available?

It has been alleged to work, there was a post from the admins that went over options a month or two back with more details.

Has anyone tried completly uninstalling Immich and reinstalling to solve this upgrade issue? What happens to the data inside Immich? Also, here is another post that is talking about this topic:

Instead of having to determine who has what access through the folder itself, also include the option so that when editing the user information, also be able to edit the access of the folders. So when creating a new folder would be the same where you can add access, but if you also include the option to edit access to the user editing menu, that would be nice in case there are lots of folders.

I am having the same issue where it cant find my server from the HexOS Dashboard. The server is active on my local network and I can access the truenas dashboard using the IP listed for the server on my router. I attempted to unclaim the server and then attempted to reclaim but it is still not showing up.
