  2. I think having a curated app for Matrix could be huge for HexOS since it could be a great and easy replacement for Discord.
  3. I'm personally hoping there is some consulting in the mix as well. I man above what would be deem to be general support issues. For instance, every app I run is accessed by HTTP not HTTPS. I would love someone to point me to suitable options that would help secure my system. And as an example, and only an example, it could dramatically increase my satisfaction with HexOS without actually making any changes to the core product. And if they develop a great solution for someone they can make it available for anyone who needs it either as contract work or as an addon service. It can all mesh together improving my experience and many others overall.
  4. First, let me start by saying I actually really appreciate this question and I hope my answer gives you faith in our long-term sustainability, exactly as you mention in the title of this thread. The lifetime license model is appropriate for a very particular type of customer with very specific priorities: Bring your own hardware Doesn't want an ongoing subscription Will mostly support themselves It was the appropriate model to launch with as well because it allowed us to inject a larger cash infusion at the start. However, we see multiple additional revenue streams available to us in the future: Subscription-based licensing. A lower price of entry for customers that aren't ready to make the lifetime commitment. Support. A more premium support model that can help you on a 1:1 basis when you have issues with your server. Cloud-based Services. Things like cloud backups (as an alternative or in addition to buddy backup). There are other cloud-assisted services such as reverse-proxy/relay that may warrant a subscription as well. Hardware products We will never force anyone to buy a specific hardware product to use HexOS, but we may offer some for those that don't want to build their own in the future. We actually have a few other ideas for additional offerings as well that would add additional revenue streams to Eshtek, but those are a little premature to discuss at this point. Bottom line: we don't just have a product plan, we have a full business plan for the future of this company and it has been designed to ensure a few key things: We don't run out of cash. We don't have to take on outside investors. We can remain true to our mission and vision. I hope this answers your question and gives you more confidence in our plans for the future. And if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!

  6. It is most likely because of one of two reasons. your redis and postgres passwords are not the same (It can be found on the original machine in the truenas ui when you edit the app) or your postgres version for immich is different (it can also be found the same way) Chances are if you first installed immich a long time ago and did a manual migration back then we would have to do a fresh install for you. If either of the follow doesn't work for you Dm me with your availability and timezone and we can have a support meeting.

  8. As title states, sever was running fine. 3 hard drives were initially in the pool, after a restart I got a warning that the pool status is degraded. Upon checking, I noticed that only 2 drives were in the pool "sda" and "sdc" but "sdb" is unused despite being reported as healthy. any explanation/fix? It doesn't seem to let me add my drive back. thanks.
  9. The point is that Eshtek is trying to be fair. Until they provide a service, which has ongoing costs (such as cloud backup/storage), there is no reason to charge subscription for HexOS. The base license will remain a one time purchase. It is just a piece of software that you should be able to run more or less indefinitely as is. Sure, they could charge you for that, but why would you want them to?
  10. Thank you all for your replies! I understand that you may already have plans in place, even if this isn’t the right time to discuss them publicly. However, the sentence “they may also provide a subscription service” is not very reassuring at the moment. I would have preferred to read “they will” or “they must,” as that would sound more realistic and proactive to me. This thread was simply about whether the team is being realistic about this. I’m genuinely trying to be constructive here — I really want this project to succeed!
  11. Can you please tell me where that mention is? I must have missed that.
  12. When I enter TrueNAS and try to install it there says "[EFAULT] Docker service is not running"
  13. Ok, but I have another problem, I was using Immich to backup the photos of my phones but it doesn't seem to be installed and when I try to re-install it it fails
  14. Ok, NVM, I asked Chat GPT, typed random shit on CMD and now it works, long live Linux
  15. Ok, so just for testing purposes I didn't do anything and just installed all old HDD into the new machine and the network card does not want to turn on. It's not a hardware problem as it turns on in Windows 10 no problem. The network card is an Intel X520-DA2 in case that's the problem.
  16. pretty much no it is not mandatory, there is a skip function when you first setup hexos. If you aren't planning to keep using your original server with hexos you can un-claim it and then activate your license on the new server.
  17. Ok, so I use ZFS, clone the boot drive and then transfer the data from my old pool to the new pool? But I only have 1 liscence, the last time I created a server un HexOs a disc wipe was mandatory, is that still a thing?
  18. the simplest way is to move the boot drive and storage drives to the new machine but since you arent reusing any parts we will have to take a different approach. you are probably going to have to look into zfs replication
  19. The team has previously mentioned that they may also provide a subscription service for additional features that have ongoing costs

  21. I have right now a server with a backup of my mobiles photos and also working as a NAS with other important files. I'd like to change basically all the hardware, but keep all the storage and configuration the same, how can I do it? The pieces of the old server won't be used in the new, so both can be turned on at the same time. I can instal windows myself and that's the extent of my skills.
  22. Have you figured it out? I just encountered the same issue.
  23. People have been hearing about the monthly support option for many months so that seems to be a possible primary long term income. After that I will be very surprised if anyone answers this post beyond statements like look at the quarterly docs to see the future plans. Deep down I don't blame them considering the general level of company communication not tied to support. They may not even have the team built out to answer those questions in detail because today, they don't really need to. There may be a lower income ceiling than the team realizes but I think it is much more likely they would get bought out or merged with a new startup then to fold up. What that means for lifetime subs is not worth stressing about today. Pay services are a cop out because it takes away from the core product but we will see what the next group of buyers say.
  24. Hi @Lucky Ed You say that you plan to run HexOS on both NAS' in the future, but what would you like to begin with? You want to build a DIY-NAS with HexOS on it and put that off site as a backup for your UGREEN NAS? If that's the case then you can do that through TrueNAS which is the underlying OS in HexOS: https://forums.truenas.com/t/rsync-pull-from-ugreen-nas/59916. So far I only think HexOS will support Buddy Backup (HexOS to HexOS), that's why you will need to set this up in TrueNAS unless you get HexOS on both machines. https://docs.hexos.com/blog/2025-11-26.html#hexos-1-1-buddy-backups I hope this helps. Otherwise feel free to clarify your question 😊
  25. Hi, I’m one of the happy lifetime license holders for HexOS, and overall, I’m really excited about where the project is headed. But there’s one thing I’m worried about: long-term sustainability. I get that selling lifetime licenses is great for upfront cash flow, but how do you plan to keep the project financially healthy in 5 or 10 years? Honestly, it reminds me a bit of what is happening with Plex, and that’s kind of worrying. For the same reason, I’ll never buy services like pCloud with “lifetime” storage. I assume you have a strategy for this—maybe optional subscription services (like cloud backup, premium/enterprise support, etc.). Could you share a bit about it? Are you confident that these income streams will be enough? Even though I’ve already paid for my license, this actually affects my decision about whether to start my main server on HexOS. Long-term viability matters more to me than the initial cost, to be honest. I’m not trying to be critical—just looking for some clarity to feel more confident about the future. Thanks for any insights!
  26. Hi. I have a small Ugreen NAS that I bought in November, so I could get off the cloud. Now, I got my hands on some hardware to make a DIY-NAS, I would like to have off-site, in case of catastrophic failure off the Ugreen hardware. I would like to use Hex for this. Would it be possible for those two to work "together", so one backs up off the other, or would I have to set it up so my phone/PC backs up individually to each device? The plan is to eventually run HEX OS on both, but as long as it is in early access, and probably a while after 1,0, I want my data on a "stable" OS (no offence meant), I never buy first edition of anything, so I love your lifetime offer Best regards, and thank you for making a cool product, with good ethics and morals. I love it! Ejner Wilcke
  27. First, considering we are still in beta, it is likely (thought not common) that updates will break things. Anyway, the job of keeping things in sync is on HexOS. If HexOS tells you you can update TrueNAS, they are ready for it, but it is not mandatory. (it could happen that, eventually, HexOS will tell you that you must update TrueNAS to be able to receive new versions of HexOS, but we are not there yet)
  28. The first and best thing to do may be to shut down the server and try to disconnect and reconnect the drive and the connection to the storage card if you're using one. Re-seating the connector fixed the issue for me when I got a degradation warning. In terms of reducing the pool, AFAIK, you can only expand the pool or replace the drives. But I would let others confirm on that front.
