Just make sure to avoid motherboard with realtek nics (network interface cards) To get expandable storage pools they need to be made with at least 3 drives

In case anyone is wondering - It went fine. All just worked with no issues. All I had to do was disable Watch Dog.

Good morning I'm looking to replace my old Nas server that is still running freenas. The hardware on that machine is an old FX8350. My current plan is to build a new machine with used hardware that I have in stock. I want to know if there are any issues or recommendations for my current path. My aim, build a back up server and Plex for my family. Motherboard: b450 or b550 CPU: And 3200g - il will get a better CPU if required Ram : 16gb ddr4 Storage: 16 - 20to HDD to be purchased, the old Nas have a 16to that is 70% full. Power supply 850w Graphic card Gtx1650 if needed Of course, I already bought my license for Hexos months ago for that purpose. Thank you for your advice Frank

Hi all, Has anyone already experiences with hexos in minisforum Nas 5 pro? I read that the nas could run truenas instead of the preinstalled one, but not sure if possible or useful..

Yup. It's 2 x 6 wide z2 vdevs or rather it will be once my transfer is complete and i can move over my drives for now is just 1 6 wide z2 vdev I'm using rsyncui, a rsync gui for Mac My old server is barely a server. It's a Macbook connected to das. I had it run a samba server and my old jellyfin server. It's also WiFi connected so that limits my speeds Not yet, i put it off since i haven't had a power outage once since i moved here 3 years ago. But i definitely need one sooner than later. Part of the reason i kept putting it off was that the nut compatibility list always seems so daunting

That's impressive, glad that it's working as you expected it =D Is your pool 2 now RaidZ2? 🙂 How do you intend to copy the files over? If the old server is Hexos/Truenas I would recommend replication task via network or just chuck the old drives in the new server and do a replication tasks from one pool to the other. If it's none Hexos/Truenas then good luck 😁 nah just kidding rsync is also awesome and if you leave it running you should be done in a week 🙂 Do you have an UPS for your setup?

I'm getting a UGREEN NASync DXP480T Plus shortly and I'm wondering if anyone has tried HexOS on that (or something similar)?

Building this server is finally done (after some amazon delays) i just started the transfer from my only server to the new one and uhm it might take weeks if not months just to transfer 50tb of data from one to the other. i gotta say it was rough. ill go into more detail later but new final plan changed to this Pool 1 (misc storage) 3 x 16 tb Seagate skyhawk ai hdd Pool 2 (main storage) 7 x 14 tb Seagate exos hdd 5 x 14tb Western Digital ultra star hdd metadata vdev 3x 870 evo 500gb pool 3 (apps pool) 2 x Intel Pro 5400s 240 GB pool 4 (iscusi pool) 3 x 2 tb Samsung 980 pro ssd (found another one in my ps5) im dead tired after software troubleshooting so more info to come after a nap

i can confirm that in hex its reading 10gig nic as 5gig as this network card come out of old server which was running truenas and was reading as 10gig

Hi, I have 2 offices where people create media and upload it to the respective NAS systems. I am looking for something, that will 1. Bring new data created in both offices to parity, with files copied into the other devices on their own. 2. I also want a third or even fourth backup in the future by connecting a new NAS in a third upcoming office, so multiple backups 3. ability schedule this data transfer for overnight/ with folder level granularity for things like a folder for sales reports should be backed up across multiple NAS devices instantly, while folders with video files for our ad platforms can be uploaded as per a schedule of my choosing Do you think HEX-OS could serve this purpose for me?

for now your best bet is to refer to this answer

So the simplest way that I do this is Via Tailscale, I have the mapped drive from Hexos Via the Ip given by Tailscale running in Cobian Backup to do complete backups "only transferring new files" from my home PC's data drive. I also have the same thing running with URbackup on hexos that does a complete backup of the whole C drive into a img incase of my laptop becoming lost or stolen.

What problems they had; It's a mobile chip, how did you found one? Did you build it or is premade? It feels like building something you risk the chance of having a les than ideal energy consumption. But buying something prebuild is going to be under powered or expensive. It's a server for only me and i think i am not interested in transcoding.

I would agree with above. I am currently running on a rather speedy Ryzen 7 7840HS with 64Gb RAM. I am being frustrated at how difficult it is to get the iGPU or NPU used for anything. When I pull the trigger for a proper build, it will likely be an Intel CPU. i5 or i7 or whatever they're calling them. I would like to know what others think, especially about these problems in the 13/14th generation chips. Desktop or Mobile chips? Would be fascinating to see something like the BeeLink ME Mini with a more capable CPU in there. Lunar Lake perhaps? But that might be straying into the power territory where a custom NAS build is necessary?

I found this link today. The creator got me with nextcloud setup really easy.

I was a bit hasty in my NAS construction and ordered a 500gb m.2 for the bootdrive. Since the OS footprint and whatever else I do with my NAS is extremely basic, the 500gb m.2 is a bit overkill and now I want to downgrade to like a 128gb drive. Ive already ported over quite a bit of data to my array, and dont really want to export it back to their original drives. What would be best course of action to keep the data intact whilst doing the bare minimum? lol. Ive read that cloning the current bootdrive to the smaller drive and plugging and playing should work? Any help with this matter is appreciated.

Hey people! I am with a mental health based nonprofit and I was wondering if HexOS has any discounts for such organizations. Thank you kindly.

ok thankx

Hey, I'm not sure if I understand you question, but yes you will find a link to download the OS which you then need to install as a new OS. During the installation process you can choose to skip the creation of a new pool if you want to import an existing pool. This however has then to be done in the truenas GUI. As for Hexos, it only supports Truenas 24.10.2.X. 25.04 is currently not supported and will break some functions/displays in Hexos.
