Hi,

I am currently running a ServeRAID M5015 in a dieing chassis - fan headers inop and random ram problems. Will HexOS be able to use this card to create pools, or do I need another card to expand the 'ol new to me Dell to 8 drives?

Thanks!

Just a note to close this post off...

I have given up on hardware RAID given a few of the comments/replies on other posts asking a similar question - nothing concrete, but I get the impression fewer layers between HexOS and the HDDs is better?

That said, I still needed 8 SATA ports for my config.  As such I bought a $50 CAD SATA card and all seems OK - still an extra layer, still works!

Hey @EPoot Yeah, you found the answer. ZFS, the filesystem used in HexOS is a (awesome) type of software RAID. Additional hardware between the filesystem and disks interfere with ZFS doing it's thing. I'm horribly oversimplifying but seeing as you've reached the correct conclusion, I'd only recommend spending some time reading up on ZFS. It's a fun, dynamic filesystem that, when managed well, can keep your data safe and scale very well over time. Have fun!
