Advice Needed: NAS for 4K Plex Transcoding + Home Camera Integration

Hello HexOS Community,

Lifetime member here (with a Lifetime Plex Pass as well), and I’m planning my next big setup. I’ll soon purchase four 24TB HDDs (considering Seagate Exos, WD Red Pro, or IronWolf Pro), but I’m stuck deciding on the right NAS.

My Goals:

  1. 4K Transcoding for Plex: I’m aiming for the highest transcoding performance possible to handle a 4K library smoothly.
  2. Home Camera System Integration: I also plan to incorporate a home security camera system into the NAS.

Specific Questions:

  • Should I opt for a prebuilt NAS, or would building my own give me a better balance of performance and cost for my needs?
  • Are there any 4K transcoding issues or limitations with HexOS I should be aware of?
  • What hardware (CPU, GPU, or RAM) would you recommend for top-tier transcoding?
  • Any known challenges or compatibility concerns when combining Plex and home camera systems on HexOS?

I’d greatly appreciate any advice or recommendations to help make this a solid investment. Thanks in advance for your insights!
