Repurposing an Intel 10 Core Extreme CPU system.

I have an old Intel 6950x system with quad channel 64gig of RAM that I want to repurpose to NAS this coming year. I plan on keeping the CPU/Motherboard/RAM and m.2 boot drive, and getting a new case/psu/storage.  Are there any foreseeable issues with this core set up that you can think of?  My only concern is that the 6950x does not have integrated graphics.

I don't know with certainty if HexOS can be fully set up headlessly, I think the answer is no, but could be wrong there. If you can't do it headless, then you would at least need a GPU to do the initial setup; but even a GT 1030 or Arc A310 would get the job done.

Beyond that, I don't think your hardware selection would have any immediate problems but that'll probably depend heavily on what all you have planned for it. I have similar plans to repurpose higher-end desktop parts (R9 5900X, 128 GB RAM, X470 board) for a HexOS build.

What zerologic said, currently there is no headless install of Hex OS, I would go with put a GPU from your main rig in temporarily and then remove it after install. Or, buy a cheap GPU for like 30$, something like a rx 570 or 980 or something cheap and leave it in there.

Once you figure out your display blocker, you're going to have one helluva system - especially if you throw a GPU in there. Have fun with it!

There's currently a 3060Ti on that system that I will plan on using for the server rig as well.  That whole system is going to be repurposed at this point once I figure out what I want to do with my 5950x/3090ti hard lined water cooled system.

Thank you, everyone.  I just kind of needed to know if I needed a GPU right away.  I have a 1000 series Titan X laying around I can use for now and there's currently a 3060Ti on that system that I could also use for the server rig as well. 

 

I just need to figure out what I want to do with my 5950x/3090ti hard lined water cooled system.  Probably just do a 9950x3D/MB/RAM and put it in the big system, take the 5950x/MB/Ram from the big system and put it in the small system with the 3060ti.  Then take the 6950x/MB/Ram from small system and use it with the Titan X for the server.
