Build Suggestions

I checked the minimum requirements, is there a recommended spec?

Plan on using this for photo & video backup from family phones. 

Might look at Plex in the future.

I want to build something that can be expandable storage-wise if needed.

Have access to lots of 4TB HDDs so plan on 4x 4TBs in the system just not sure what sort of CPU and motherboard to go for.

Any suggestions are welcome 🙂

if youre looking at plex, ide suggest a cpu that has good AV1 capabilities. Intel has good offerings at base i5 12th+ are a good starting point. mobo is whatever you feel that fits your form factor.

Good post. I'm also thinking about a more budget build using an old Technopc with I5-7400 / 16 GB DDR4 / 250 GB SSD with 4x4TB hard drives. Would this be enough  for immich and plex? Any advice is appreciated.

I bought THIS DEVICE as an upgrade to my old Netgear ReadyNAS. It doesn't have an i5 in it, just a N100 but I think it'll perform nicely. Also, full transparency, I just spent $25 on a 16GB RAM, which as it will be using ZFS, should come in handy.

I've seen several other people use or intend to use the ZimaCube.

Would an i7 7700 be okay with AV1 for plex?
