Frappo Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 I'm planning to run HexOS in a Proxmox vm and give a licence to friends or family to help them replace their cloud subscriptions (but I might not be able to help them directly with the configuration). The key use cases are the following : - ease to configure OS and immich for a non tech-savy, remember that they come mostly from icloud or google drive and that you are competing against the personal cloud software that most NAS offer in bundle with their hardware. - Immich vs Synology, i know Immich is not developed in HexOS and I've never used it, but since it will be your main media backup software I will compare to that, cloud-like features are appreciated, like sharing a public link with a seamless automatic ddns (you could prompt the user to choose a domain but not more than that). - offload backups: I'm really interested on this feature, I can help myself having a backup but most people really can't bother, usually have one hdd or usb pen drive and call it a day, so it will be a big improvement (especially if they choose my server as target that will do a backup of the backup on a different machine). But I see potential flaws: for someone like me that have multiple TB to manage it will be tough to make a selection of what is really important to be sent over, so I'm thinking at something like a system flag, but I don't know how it will be easy to implement. Also strong compression can be used and a bandwidth limit must be set, I don't want to saturate my friend's network neither I want mine to randomly spike. Quote
