Mixed hdd types

I plan on starting off with 2× 6tb Toshiba MD04 later down the line when I expand do I need to add the same type or could I throw in 12tb+ hdd's like a mix and match of duos

Apparently if you create a 2-drive pool it's not expandable. You need to start with at least 3 drives to allow expanding your pool later on.

I don't know for sure how things work with disparate drive sizes, but one possibility is that only as much as the lowest capacity drive is available per drive.

I will have 3 to start with one running the os. So it should keep it expandable. And if I am limited to just the 6tb capacity I can grab and external housing for expansion

Storage devices in each pool need to be roughly the same size.

If I have 4 2TB HDD's and 4 4TB HDD's will it automatically set up 2 separate pools?

The OS boot drive cannot be used for a storage pool, it has to be its own device so for your case it would not work
