Setup for family with backups

Question

Posted

Hi!

I have wanted to create a "google drive" for my family for a long time. We all live in separate homes.
Have I understood correctly that I could (in the future) do this:

1. Run HexOs on a server in my home, add a user for each family member
2. Exopose HexOs to the public internet so me, and my family can all login with our own credentials
3. Buy a second license and server that runs in one of my family members home
4. Use "buddy backup" to replicate my server there, so if my home burns down the data is not lost

My family members rely on me as their IT guy, and they do not want to have a "own instance" of the HexOS. Is the setup I have described possible, and is it overkill to have a second licence in this case?
This is the only "easy to setup" solution I have thought of so far.

Hi there! You would not want or need to expose your server public to the internet, but yes, we want to make this a reality by leveraging buddy backups.
