Metz Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 Hi, As per the title, are there any DIY or off the shelf solutions for a NAS that uses M2/NVME storage? It doesn’t have to be lightning fast but I want to build something as fanless as possible. Thanks Quote
Kachu Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 I don't have this but it looks interesting. https://a.co/d/9QKFLOn 1 Quote

I have come across these before but not tried one… maybe now is the time. Need to check if the OS can be installed on a USB/SD card, so all 4 M2s are dedicated to the RAID. Quote
Maximus Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 I bought a used HP ProDesk 600 G3 with an i5-7500 (not the slim version) for a few bucks and added a pcie>nvme expansion card. I use an old sata ssd to boot and two 2TB nvme drives for storage, it works great 🙂 1 Quote

As for fanless, there IS a fan, let’s just hope it’s of the silent kind 😉 I got mine from here, since amazon.com don’t ship this product to my country (Sweden): https://ipc.net/products/4-bay-nas-pocket-pc-dual-2-5gbe-i226-v-lan-ports-12th-gen-n100-n305-with-ddr5-max-48gb-4-m-2-nvme-2280-dual-4k-display-2-usb3-2-10gbps-for-micro-firewall-router-nas-mini-computer It will be a nice housing for the HexOS I payed for this morning. Image I got from their support, so the Foresee brand is just an example. When I got this mini PC the specification chosen was for a 512GB SSD which I imagined would be in addition to the four NVMe positions. But was simply one of four positions occupied. Quote
