Changing hardware, keeping software

Question

Posted

I have right now a server with a backup of my mobiles photos and also working as a NAS with other important files.
I'd like to change basically all the hardware, but keep all the storage and configuration the same, how can I do it?

The pieces of the old server won't be used in the new, so both can be turned on at the same time.

I can instal windows myself and that's the extent of my skills.

the simplest way is to move the boot drive and storage drives to the new machine but since you arent reusing any parts we will have to take a different approach.

you are probably going to have to look into zfs replication

Ok, so I use ZFS, clone the boot drive and then transfer the data from my old pool to the new pool? But I only have 1 liscence, the last time I created a server un HexOs a disc wipe was mandatory, is that still a thing?

no it is not mandatory, there is a skip function when you first setup hexos.

If you aren't planning to keep using your original server with hexos you can un-claim it and then activate your license on the new server.

Ok, so just for testing purposes I didn't do anything and just installed all old HDD into the new machine and the network card does not want to turn on.

It's not a hardware problem as it turns on in Windows 10 no problem.

The network card is an Intel X520-DA2 in case that's the problem.

It is most likely because of one of two reasons.
your redis and postgres passwords are not the same (It can be found on the original machine in the truenas ui when you edit the app)
or your postgres version for immich is different (it can also be found the same way)

Chances are if you first installed immich a long time ago and did a manual migration back then we would have to do a fresh install for you.
If either of the follow doesn't work for you
Dm me with your availability and timezone and we can have a support meeting.
