HEXOS rsync

Question

Posted

I already have a TrueNAS (Scale) setup with 40Tb of data and a number of app's installed on a near 10 year old HP Gen8, working 24/7.  However, the limitations are now an issue, hence, I am about to recieve a new server in the coming weeks that I intend as a replacement for the current setup use the trusty Gen8 as a tinker/backup server. So, knowing how, if and when migration would be addessed would be useful. I'd also like to know (BTW not read all docs yet!, sorry) if Rsync (or other backup options) is in the beta ATM? I could then setup HEXOS and then rysnc the data as a backup. BTW taken the plunge and bought the lifetime early access to hopefully test.

Hi there! We have announced buddy backups for backing up data between two HexOS servers. Additional cloud backup services is something we want to look at as well.

Hi @KBW Buddy backup is intended to be a remote backup system between two known users; friends and/or family so there would not be an additional cost to the individual. Using two devices on a local lan is not buddy backup. I would wait for the dev team to make an announcement before assuming something as ubiquitous as Rsync may or may not be supported. We're still in beta and there is quite a lot of work to do, so let's hang in there and see what happens!

Thanks!

Hi there! Yes, Buddy backup is great, however, that does involve another license cost, which I feel is over kill, since the two servers would be local (all be it, in two different rooms). So, Rsync is not being implemented by default?  I am regrading my purchase already. I might as well stick with TrueNAS after all :(,
