Single drive pools/growing pools over time

Question

Posted

Hi,

Looking over the FAQ for the beta, it states that there is a minimum of two drives required to form a “static” (non expandable) pool and likewise a 3 drive minimum for expandable pools. Is this a limitation of trueNAS or is this a “safety” feature to ensure that people set up a minimum amount of redundancy and likewise is it possible to expand off of the two drive pools? (Maybe at a later date?)

I only ask because it is much easier to stomach acquiring drives one at a time and upgrading as needed (hopefully I can start with 2 drives) and don’t want to lose all of my data if I have to reset the pool in order to add storage.

Thank you.
