Another Command Deck update went live today.

This release includes:

  • Fixes to the networking layer for users switching between DHCP and static IP modes

  • Improved performance across the app based on the observability metrics added last release

  • A new queuing and caching layer to handle folder loading for users with a large number of folders, preventing API overload with TrueNAS

  • A fix for a bug that caused folders to appear missing when a private folder user had been deleted

Performance work is ongoing. Let us know if you spot anything.

  • jerod changed the title to Command Deck Update Notification (07/28/2025)
Posted (edited)

Can the notification be changed slightly to make it clear it's a Command Deck update and not something locally we need to install? The notification said "HexOS has received an update" so people may be looking around to see where to update.

You can see it's a Command Deck update if you click "Release notes are available here." but if you aren't the type to read release notes you may still get annoyed looking around for how to update your HexOS install.

Not having a moan, just wanting to keep it as clear as possible for everyone - Thanks!

EDIT: Actually now I'm not sure if it's actually an update we are meant to do or not 😂

Definitely can see the confusion here.  This is a Command Deck update, not an OS update that would require you to download/install/restart anything.

Where is the update?

If visual changes you may need to do a full refresh like delete your cache and stuff.

Can confirm this fixed the issue where folders were not loading anymore! Thank you so much HexOS team for flagging this bug and getting it addressed!

Do we have an update on the apps? This is the main reason why I purchased two licenses. But so far there's only two apps available and both haven't received any updates

Supposedly should see more info By end of September. I believe the last quarter (Oct, Nov, Dec) they're rolling out something to help move Apps faster.

We are working on increased app support this quarter. The plan is to build an app templating system that will allow us to more rapidly publish our curations and allow for the community to participate as well.

I will be publishing another blog post soon to talk about this and our other priorities for Q3.

Hi Jonathan,

I'm excited to follow your journey with HexOS! It's great to see you're already exploring integrations like Immich and Plex. One key piece I think would really strengthen the platform—especially for home and SOHO users—is Nextcloud.

TrueNAS has always lacked an easy, built-in way to sync and manage files via a web UI and mobile apps. Nextcloud could fill that gap perfectly. It's also one of the main reasons I believe Synology continues to thrive in the SOHO space—the simplicity and reliability of file syncing just works.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this kind of core functionality become part of HexOS.
Keep up the great work—looking forward to your next update!

Thank you so much (nerone) for bringing this topic up, I am running nextcloud on another server for now until there is better support for it on HEXOS this would be a much appreciated supported app. It opens up a lot of flexibility to HEXOS.

I am having a issue with my server since the update!! I have a T420 Dell Power edge computer and never had a issue till the update. Has anyone had that issue before or is it just me. It restarts life 3 times a day for some reason.

Currently can't reclaim my server.  I've reset the password for Admin and Root with a new one.  Command Deck is stating invalid password.

You need to use the password you enterred when installing hexos on your server, likely the user for that was truenas_admin if that helps you find/remember your password. Unless you've changed your truenas admin login password since then.
