PSA: You can update to 24.10.2.2 via TrueNAS; HexOS Q2 Update Imminent

How much will HexOS lag behind TrueNas when reaching 1.0? Given that you're partnering with TrueNas folks, would it be possible to have day 1 updates? Or Are you going to wait a couple weeks to make sure everything works?.

I think TrueNas community is kind of a "beta program" so they make sure everything is fine for the enterprise releases. Given that HexOS is a paid product, how are you going to protect your users from possible issues when updating? (TrueNas has broken a couple of things on the last updates.)

According to following post it will be a couple of weeks behind truenas for major releases.

After updating to 24.10.2.4 via HexOS, the notification history shows "Successfully updated server". It would be great if the history was more informative, such as "Successfully updated server to 24.10.2.4".

since command deck was already giving me problems likely do to my unsupported usecase of raid z2+ metadata drive and i needed linux kernel 6.8 for my igpu to be supported, i took the plunge into fangtooth.

Hopefully i can rejoin everyone else on supported versions of truenas once the command deck q3 update drops

Out of curiosity, and asking since it's about four days later so you've had some time to digest the changes, how is this working out for you?

I haven't used command deck at all since updating. The docker apps I've installed on truenas 24 have been working great on truenas 25.

I'm also finally able to transcode using Intel quick sync on Jellyfin now. I had some videos that just wouldn't play before and i also couldn't previously lower quality to play outside my home network (i have garbage upload speeds)

Is there anything else in particular you are curious about?

Any updates? Is almost October 😬

q2 update has long released and we are most likely closer to the release date of the q3 update than the q2 update

I mean it's only released in a test capacity as far as I am aware. So we only get updates when the team needs public testing. So if you've deployed like I have truenas is inevitable at this point.

They are currently releasing updates on a quarterly schedule.

But Linus from Linus tech tips let slip on the Friday's wan show (right around the 2 hours and 10 minute mark) that the next update will be out today.

There was an announcement before that from what's his bucket (I'm terrible with names) that there'd be an update sometime today so it's not really a "slip". I was busy friday/weekend, so maybe he gave a bit more details lol

How does the update work? Does it just happen or do you have to actually do something?

to my knowledge it's not out yet. Wait for an announcement, and go from there. Updates previously I've had to do nothing or delete browser cache.

im not 100% about rolling back but if you do upgrade to fangtooth make sure you don't upgrade zfs pool flags in the truenas ui
if you do, you definitely can no longer roll back and still use the same storage pools
