Steam Caching Server?

Sorry, if this has been asked before & posted elsewhere.

Would be handy to have app support for steam caching, especially for big/medium family's/house hold share.

I can understand this will not be on the radar as yet, while sorting other issues out/beta etc

I think they are working on a host of Docker images and/or apps to be supported out of the box and this is a good idea.

In the mean time you could use docker in the TrueNAS dashboard and try out lancache.net
I have not used this personally, but it looks like it supports steam, battlenet and epic.

Just curious, is there a real use case for a steam chache server now that steam natively allows this functionality to any devices on the network?

This is a big reason I wanted something like this. I do not currently have a server of any kind set up, but i do have a 4tb SSD that's about full with mainly Steam games on my main PC. While it's nice that I can use it as a caching server, it's less than ideal since now i can't store anything else locally, plus it makes going through my installed game library a chore, all because my buddies and I may want to play some random game we use to and I don't like having to re-download anything, So having the ability to set up a dedicated server means I can now clean that drive up for other projects I'm working on, and if my buddies say "hey, let's play X tonight", I can more easily download, play, then remove it when we're done.

Fair enough, that's a great reason! 🙂
I generally have everything installed on my desktop and most of my game swapping happens on my Ally. That on top of the strong chance of my wife or son having the game on their PC(s) and/or steam deck(s) shelters me from the chance of it not being installed locally at all.

The main thing I have noticed with Steam networking sharing via LAN, seems to be limited on speeds. I have 2, with 1-Gb, and 3 with 2.5Gb NICS cards in them.. The transfer rate seems to be capped at 200Mbps give or take no matter from where/or network load. Main switch is 10Gb, 2nd switch is 2.5Gb one.

Oh I did forget to add, that some of the games now days are crazy in sizes, plus 2 of the family PC's are small factor builds, with about 1 TB drive. So space is limited, while the server can sit there and chill with back ups/updates on games, + pooling resource's together in one case/server rack.

YESSS Steam Cashing would be amazing to have since i do alot of gaming and what not accross several devices

This is exactly what I want.
I tried to set it up by hand before on truenas, but failed.

probably an error on my side.
