FAZZA Posted November 30, 2024 Posted November 30, 2024 Love to have pi-hole as an app. I have a skill (bit like Linus) that just updating Ubuntu OS (which I run pi-hole on because it’s supported) randomly breaks the OS and often requires a full reinstall to recover. tad annoying so having this as a simple app install would save me time and fear of this random faults. /FAZ 13 Quote
guslanzetta Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 I too would like this. Right now I have an LXC container in proxmox running pihole and that's my dns server. Hopefully Hexos becomes something I can migrate all those small tasks to. 1 Quote
Calscats Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 Something like this is something that I would like to eventually be able to do. I was hoping that with the support of docker containers I had dreamed that eventually my media server would take over tasks exactly like this once HexOS came to fruition. Quote
Coates Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 +1 to this! I posted somewhere else on here about how I spent so many hours going through tutorials setting up OMV and Pi-Hole on my old NAS. Once I finally had it built and working, I lost the mojo to do anything with it. Having pi-hole as an app that can be run as easily as the plex integration looks to be would be game changing and gives the NAS that little bit more utility. Quote
oli13 Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 Would like to have pi hole with unbound to set up the recursive DNS as well 1 Quote

I download DietPi for x86 and put it on a Dell micro pc. After the install you can pick tons of apps to run and they update easy. I have been doing that now for about 3 years or more and. have never had an issue. You can also download it for raspberry pi. Also I actually have to small micro pc's that i have as nas1 and nas 2 in my house doing it this way. Edited December 5, 2024 by jpadgett Quote
Mr.Bigglesworth Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 I miss my pi-hole. Haven't had time to tinker since I stopped WFH and now I'm workin 50-60h\w. Why I liked HexOS Quote
guslanzetta Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Has anyone gotten pihole running? This is the only thing stopping me from installing right now. Quote

This is the only thing stopping me from installing right now. I have ran it on about 6 different machines now over the years. I finally bought some cheap appliances off Ebay for around 60 each. I installed DietPi X86 version and that has a Text Gui setup for Pihole and Unbound. That let me put one at the rack at each end of the house and NS1 and NS2. You can set one up just like you want and then export the config into NS2. love the setup and this way if I take down the server pihole setup. Also the NS1 in the studio is also setup as my print server. Lanner appliance which is NS2 has 6 ports. Edited December 19, 2024 by jpadgett Quote
