Hey,

Out of interest, how long will my lifetime key be valid? I’ve had "lifetime" licenses expire after 10 years because that was the lifetime of the device.
I'm interested in trying it out but curious about your stance on lifetime licenses.

Kind regards,

Lifetime means that there is no time limit. When switching to new hardware just disconnect your old server from the license and connect the new hardware to your license.

As Linus said, he really pushing the developers to having a perpetual license, because he himself believe not everything has to be a subscription. Rest asure, your lifetime license is lifetime forever.

I have a slightly different question. When you look at the purchasing page for a Lifetime license it says

"By purchasing a lifetime license now, you will gain access to the beta program."

So the question is, will we only have access to the Beta of HexOS or does this apply to any future releases and updates?? This might seem like a stupid question but some vendors will give you access to the OS version you bought and only provide minor updates. Yet you then have to buy major releases if you want new features or need compatibility with newer stuff.

I guess this is maybe something the developers haven't thought through yet. For now the only prove of my Lifetime purchase is that invoice I printed out 🫤

@jonp repeatedly say that lifetime is lifetime, including all future update and future releases, not just beta program

it is indeed based on promises and they can be straight out lie.

But i do have hope for HexOS, especially this project backed by Linus, 'cause he himself had a beef with TeamViewer not honoring his perpetual license.

So when he said, there's will be a perpetual (lifetime) license, i will trust him.

If you scroll to the bottom of the HexOS home page, they have this footnote below the link to buy the license:

"*Some features will not be immediately available in the HexOS Beta, but a lifetime license grants you access to all features of HexOS forever excluding cloud-based backup, premium support services, and other metered services."

Not legally binding, but next best thing for the time being 🤷‍♀️
