Cookie Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 I have installed my server under the stairs. It takes about a few minutes of really annoying tasks to get to the powerbutton. I would love to be able to remotely start the computer from the web interface! Quote
Mobius Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 yeah that would be cool but i think it also requires your motherboard to have a wake on lan feature in the bios. If you don't have a motherboard with that feature, your best bet might be to get a jetkvm or pikvm. Quote
Duckle Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 It requires you to configure your motherboard for WoL as @Mobius mentioned. I'm not sure how you'd go about doing that from the web interface tho, as you have to send a UDP broadcast package, and I don't think there's any API for that in browsers. Something like a small program on your computer, or an app on your phone should do. I haven't used this, but it seems like a neat app for the purpose https://github.com/herzhenr/simple-wake-on-lan As for how to enable WoL in your motherboard, it varies from board to board. You can try and google "Wake on lan <motherboard name>" and see if there's some guides, or if you need help, feel free to poke me with the motherboard model, and I'll try and look it up 🙂 Quote
rusty sheriffs badg Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 (edited) It would be nice if they could do what Synology / Qnap do where you can setup a time schedule for when it turns on / off because is some countries the electricity tariffs are so exppensive. Depends on your motherboard, truenas is just software. My NAS uses just over 1kw a day, which is around £0.22 a day. I'll check at some point if my motherboard has wake on LAN, as it can probably go off most of the night. 1 Quote
