Juan_Home Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Hello! I bought two of the server invites when they were $99, which I planned to setup and create my friends first REAL NAS using Hex OS as he isn't a techy and I think would benefit from the simple interface. I know is account information is there anyway I could give one of my invites to him? Thank you! Quote
arvinpw Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 unfortunately no, it would violating the HexOS terms. https://hexos.com/terms 1 Quote
BlueAsphalt Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 This needs to be cleared further as buddy backups was one of the major selling points. Say i create another NAS for buddy backup and place it offsite, it would be natural that the people offsite would like to log into it as well and use its services. Quote

We weren't planning to allow this originally, but this use-case is all too common. So long as the transfers are done in a reasonable time-frame after purchase, I think this is fine. The issue is we do not want to create a black market for reselling lifetime licenses. That isn't supportable for us. I will update the FAQ/terms likely tomorrow with better verbiage to address this. 4 2 Quote

It would be nice if when i login to deck i see both servers and if they ever wanna log in they can only see the one server. i feel like no one that cares about their data would even consider buying a sub account on the black market. I think you can just hit the drop down of your NAS name in HexOS and select the second server. Quote

Great feature idea. Having not spent more than 3 seconds thinking about the security implications, I totally see us doing this ;-). The tricky part is granular access control. Maybe you want them to see that server and even do a few things, but maybe you don't want them to be able to do EVERYTHING such as delete or shutdown/reboot. But I think we will have a solution for that too 😉 4 Quote

I have two licenses and plan to put one physically at a family members home for the buddy backup and their personal use. Quote

I have a feeling your use case will be possible once 1.0 comes out. They already declared that the offline dashboard will come out with 1.0, and there is no way the offline dashboard will require you to login with your credentials (it is not a offline dashboard if you have to connect to the internet to use it). So my guess about how this could work would be you can just register your friends server with your account and then they can access just that server from it's offline dashboard. Quote
