I have been looking to set up a NAS for a while but was waiting for this to come out. I don't currently have a dedicated system to install it into (don't want to buy HDDs just to have them sit). I plan on building it in the near future but it likely won't be until early next year. Does it matter if I don't have a system to install it on, or does that mess anything up with it being early access. I would like to take advantage of the current discount.
If it does matter, or you would greatly prefer i have something so I can be part of the beta and not just handing you money to not use it, I might be able to put it in a VM on my main computer or borrow a friends computer (he has several lying around). Would I be able to just delete that and transfer the license to the dedicated later without any problems (other than the extra copies of files dying)?
As for the buddy Backup, that same friend with superfluous computers, likely wont ever buy the OS b/c he is cheap a hell (occasionally to his detriment). If he runs TrueNAS scale (or even others) when he eventually gets around to setting up his own NAS, would we be able to relatively easily set that up or will it require HexOS? He does have networking experience though not specifically NAS software.
