Techman_360 Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Installed Plex on HexOS, got my media loaded, and the Plex install is associated with my Plex account, but the Plex instance is in a different network segment/address scheme them the rest of my local network, and my Plex mobile app can't connect to the Plex instance on HexOS. Did I miss something during setup? Trying to do this by the book and not dig into the TrueNAS scale side of things, but it seems like something is off with the install? 2 Quote
Techman_360 Posted December 11, 2024 Author Posted December 11, 2024 So Plex is on 172.16.X.X, and my home network is 192.168.X.X. Looking around I can check 'use host network' in the Plex 'settings' within TrueNAS, but I'm curious if theres a better way to make this work, and why this doesnt work out of the box correctly? 2 3 Quote
TheCroShow Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Your post saved me a lot of heartache! i couldn't figure out why I couldn't play my movies in original quality when watching on my TV (living room or bedroom). I checked playback settings and saw it was capped at 2mbps for some reason. I checked the "use host network" thing in TrueNas (wheni it says recommended to leave that OFF) and voila, now I can watch my movies in original quality. it's much snappier, too! Quote
Djesse Posted December 14, 2024 Posted December 14, 2024 Thank you for this also solved my problem with not being able to direct play. Quote
Techman_360 Posted December 16, 2024 Author Posted December 16, 2024 Is there a writeup or intention for how Plex is supposed to operate from the HexOS team that could speak to this issue? Is this setup intentional? Early Beta bug? Quote
Eric Michels Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 Upvote, this fixed my issue! noting here as I had to find in a different thread, TrueNAS user name is "truenas_admin" and your set up password Quote
mcnuggy Posted Saturday at 11:33 AM Posted Saturday at 11:33 AM +1 fixed my issue, had to spend a few hours debugging Noting a bit more details on where to change host network setting TrueNas scale -> Apps tab on left column -> double press plex icon -> Edit on top right -> Network configuration on right filter -> Host Network checkbox 1 Quote

I could not stream my movies over my local network, they would all go over the plex relay capped at 2mbps with horrible quality and buffering (verified by losing access to my library in the plex app when I turned the relay feature off in the plex network settings). I wasted so much time digging through the settings in my Apple TV app trying to see where I could give it my server's IP address directly. Once I flipped this Host Network switch in the TruNas interface, my movies play without issue (presumably over my local network). Bonus, I also found the setting to take advantage of my server's GPU here as well:) Quote
