DanTheDroneMan Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Hello I currently have a four bay NAS but I'm considering purchasing a home server for obvious reasons. My question is regarding the HDD allocation with HexOS. I currently have two 2GB and two 6GB HDDs, all running individually, I don't care for RAID or anything like that. In HexOS can I continue to operate these as four individual disks and simply share their root folders as I do today with my home NAS? Quote
Dylan Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Hi DanTheDroneMan. Unfortunately, no. HexOS used the ZFS filesystem which functions as software RAID. There are also important disk allocation and size considerations as well. It might be helpful to review this POST and familiarize yourself with the hardware and storage requirements. Welcome and good luck! Quote
arvinpw Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 adding to that, there will be an option (manual configuration) to just configure your HDDs as is. No RAID whatsoever. Probably in version 1.0. But stick to recommendation configuration for the best. Quote

Cool, I've already bought the early license so I might just try it with a single HDD and that picture sharing utility (can't remember the name, saw it on LTT) until I'm able to jam the other disks in and let them run individually. Dylan Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Hi @DanTheDroneMan - Take a look HERE. Beta is now open to everyone...not sure what happened but let me know if something has gone sideways, here. Might be helpful to connect with "support@hexos.com" - keep me posted! Quote

Thanks, I joined right after seeing the LTT video at which point I was still under the impression invites were being sent out at a rate of something like 1,000 per day. They must have stopped short before getting to my order number and then just opened it up for all to use. I can see I can obtain the server now, cheers. Quote
