Hey all!

I didn't see an off topic thread for car enthusiasts, and I'm sure there are at least a few here.

What do you drive? What's the most fun car you've owned? What kind of projects do you have planned?

Let's hear it all!

Currently I have an E46 M3, and AP1 S2000, and an F31 330i Touring (daily duty)

The M3 is getting new wheels this spring, as well as getting odds and ends fixed up from age.

The S2000 will be undergoing some maintenance, but I have to pull the suspension and reset preload on all the coil overs due to me being dumb when I first installed them when I was younger.

The 330i is getting creature comfort retrofits. I just retrofitted the heated steering wheel coding/switch, and next will be an antenna and coding to run an OEM Apple CarPlay connection.

I don't have anything exciting currently.  Sporting a 2001 Toyota RAV4 with 262k miles on the whole car.  Gets the job done to and fro.  My favorite car has been my 2006 Scion xB.  Boy do I miss it.  Switched to my wife's rav because the property tax on it is $4.  :)  She gets the better vehicle.

This winter I will be helping my FiL with his 2001 Mazda Miata.  Doing a radiator swap, struts, sway bar links, and a couple of other maintenance items, but putting some performance parts on it.

Nothing exciting from me either. Currently using my 2013 nissan murano.

With how fast the prices of the new Z is dropping i am very tempted to get one, one of these days

Have you always been a Z fan?  Do you have a favorite?

when i was a lot younger i would walk by a beautiful blue 350z everyday on my way to school. Ever since then i have really liked the Z.
when the 370z came out i thought i liked how it was a bit longer which just made the car look so much sleeker
From day 1 i was not a fan at all of the new z's 😬 grille.
but the nismo front end looks so nice.

I have a 1998 Mercury Mountaineer and a 2023 Hyundai IONIQ 5 EV (leased). The IONIQ is so fun to drive, but recently it broke down (lost communication with the shift-by-wire actuator, so it could not leave park). It's been in the shop for over a month, Hyundai has no idea what is wrong. New parts have not been able to fix it. :') The Mountaineer is still doing great though!! Horrible gas mileage in comparison xD The IONIQ was getting equivalent of 100+MPG (using cost as the comparison), the Mountaineer gets 14 on a good day.

I hope you get to skip a month of the lease payment for that nonsense!

I’m going to reach out to a lawyer and try to end the lease tbh. It’s already a terrible deal and now I can’t even use it anymore :C

Currently have a 2019 Honda Fit. I fell in love with the versatility of car when my dad bought a water salvage once at 17k with stick. You could use your finger to push in that clutch and at the time I had a 100K 2003 subaru forester that I think had a hydraulic issue, in hindsight, so the clutch was STIFF. I learned quickly that the clutch was engaged at the top so it turned out okay.  After 40k it came to light the I had the inevitable leaking head gasket. Before I could think about replacing it, an eldery lady drove through 4 lanes of traffic and totaled my car. Over the years I had automatics and manuals until sadly the Honda Fit I bought was a CVT. But it's been 20K since without issue and if I had room in my garage (new home buyer as of April) I would consider a project car again. I do have a cement slab next to the 1 car garage. Just need to make my fence on the allyway into a gate so I can freely take in/out and store my dream project car which currently is a Subaru Justy. But those might all rust out before I get a chance to afford a semi good example with 4x4 lol.

That looks sick!  Love the livery on the side and the wheels.

Thank you friend :3 The wheels are a pretty recent addition, the OEM ones looked pretty weak sauce

Rocking a 2017 Denali Ultimate with the 6.2L. This picture is I *think* a year old but she still looks the same. 61k miles and is my daily driver. It's a fun truck!

I can't see myself ever purchasing a hyundai/kia. They make cars with great specs for the price but i don't trust them to make a lasting car.
They sold cars with the notorious theta 2 for years and needed to have a class action lawsuit filed against them for warranties to start being honored.

friend of mine had his engine blow up at 49k miles and he babied that car.
credit where it is due after 2 months or so he got either a new or refub engine for free after about 2 months under warranty.

i hope things work out for you because being without a new car for so long no doubt has to be super frustrating

Just about every IONIQ 5 I've heard about has had issues. The 2022 and lower models, and some of the 2023s, have had massive electrical issues (e.g. the car would stop charging the 12V battery, yes there's still a 12V... so everything would die) and Hyundai has had a very hard time fixing it. They keep doing recalls to try to fix/prevent it with software. Feels like I have to take it in for a software update every month because you can't update it at home. It takes like a couple hours usually, and I just have to sit around in the shop or take a walk or something.

Anyway they are clearly new to the EV game. That said, the cars are VERY FUN to drive when they are working lol. The instant torque is seriously addicting. I am rooting for them to figure it out in the future.

I think Hyundai has some really interesting looking cars, but the horror stories of techs replacing engines non stop in them regardless of model, really turns me off from them.

The IONIQ 5 looks really cool with the square running lights and it's such a unique design, but it can't sell me over the fact the engines want to grenade with just regular driving.

*And this is coming from an ex-Subaru owner* (I still miss my turbo Subarus)

I completely agree they are really fun when they work, i drove around a friend's HI5 and the instant torque was a lot of fun

I got my IONIQ 5 back today. Apparently there’s a connector down by your left foot that is easy to kick and break. That’s how my car got stuck in park. I’ve read multiple accounts of it online now that I know what happened. There’s nothing between your foot and this sensitive part 😵‍💫

That can't be true?  That sounds like such a technical oversight.  How do they prevent it from happening in the future?

Unfortunately it looks like it’s true, I got down and looked under the footwell and if you put your left foot on the foot rest and slide it up, it goes right into the connector lmao… and it’s pretty easy to slide your foot up there without thinking about it. I’d love to look under a 2025 footwell and see if they put a shield there. As for my car, I’m not sure what I’m going to do. Maybe I’ll 3D print something that can go over the connector and protect it from my foot. I’d like to say it’s as simple as “well don’t kick it anymore”, but I keep catching myself sliding my foot up near the connector without realizing it while driving. Maybe my seat needs adjusted..

Rocking my 1998 Audi TT 8n 1.8T with a slightly better tune to 230 (theoreticly 290 but obviously I dont drive it like that cause it wouldnt be road legal 😉)

Tho it looks nice its a moneypit....had to replace dampers etc für the TÜV recently and now my Air volume sensor is gone, had to plug it out so I can drive it until I have money for a new one.

My real baby is my Yamaha R1 RN04 which is modded to be a nakedbike.

It drives really well and gear ratio is shortend to a 14/45. I got it for 2k and it was defenetly worth it so far. I hope I'll get my first TÜV with it next year....

Over 44 years I've had a lot of special cars, my last one was a 2018 Mustang GT, it ran 12.1@116 brand new bone stock, with a tune it ran 11.6@124 on E and factory tires so not even being driven hard. The transmission broke while delecreating one day and it took Ford 6 months to "fix it" and when I got it back it had a vibration issue they couldn't figure out, been down that road before and sued them so got rid of it because wasn't going through that hell again.

My latest hot rod is a TIffin Allegro Breeze 32BR... what can I say, I'm old. 😅

Was it the 10 speed or manual?
