Hiya,

im currently running 4x3TB drives, and while i think that will be enough for a while, i will most likely have to upgrade sometime in the next year or two, not only for more storage, but also because the 3TB drives are getting on in age.

I would like to request an intuitive method of moving all the data + config from the old drives to the new ones.

Thanks.

I mean I think the most intuitive way is to replace each drive one at a time waiting for rebuild after each new disk.  Outside of creating a new pool with the new drives and manually copying everything over.

I think it'd be great if when HexOS notices you're reaching  x% capacity or y GB/TB left (set by user) it notifies you that you should consider upgrading your storage. Then it should send you to a guide on how to do it. This is one thing I am wondering, However I have 52TB so it'll be quite some time before I fill that up. At least I hope so.

Also Send me guides if a drive is failing and how to replace it. I'm a noob so these are all things I've no clue how to do.

Would this even work, if i for example replace one of my 3tb drives with an 8tb drive, would i lose capacity?

Thats a good idea, especially for people starting off with lower storage amounts to see if everything works and if the server even makes sense for them, and then upgrade a year later (basically me).

Yes.  So say you have 3 4TB drives.  Which would give you 8TB of usable storage.

Replacing one of them with 8TB drive will not give you more storage.  But if you buy 3 8TB drives, replace one of the 4TB drives, allow it to rebuild, then do the same for the remaining drives, after the last 8 TB is installed and rebuilt it will automatically expand to 16TB of usable storage.

I will go with that solution too but now we also get the chance to expand the storage by adding disk to the pool.
