mrmono Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 I was wondering if I could add additional sata ports via a link pcie card. From there does anyone have a good way to power the additional hard drives as I plan on getting an optiplex that would not have enough sata power cables. Or should I go a different direction? Quote
ShadowChaser Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 What sort of Optiplex? The mid and full tower versions should use regular ATX power supplies in which case you can replace the Dell OEM one with something that has more peripheral power should you need it. I would say that if you are serious about adding additional drives to get a desktop case that can support the drives you need. If you're only running a handful then using adapters should be okay. Nightwish Posted December 7, 2024 Posted December 7, 2024 It's pricey but i have a highpoint RAID card and enclosure that used to house my old hardware RAID that i have set up each drive as a JBOD to pass through to HexOS. Holds up to 8 drives and powers them in its own external unit Quote
EPoot Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 I can confirm that a Diyeeni 8 port SATA card bought for $50 CAD on Amazon last week works fine. The Diyeeni name likely means nothing, and the specs of the card seem pretty generic but here they are: Item Type:PCI-E to SATA 3.0 Card Model:PCE8SAT-M01 Master: Fit for Marvell 88SE92xx+JMB5XX Interface: PCI-E 1X 2X 4X 8X 16X Support System:Fit For Windows 7/8/XP/10 Fit For Ubuntu Expansion Interface: 8 x SATA3.0 Interfaces Compliant with Serial ATA 3.0 specification, backward compatible with SATA2.0 SATA1.0; PCI-Express v2.0 compliant, backward compatible with PCI-Express v1.0. Supports speeds of 6.0 Gbps, 3.0 Gbps and 1.5 Gbps; supports Gen 1i, Gen 1x, Gen 2i, Gen 2m, Gen 2x, and Gen 3i. Supports AHCI1.0 mode and IDE mode, native command queue (NCQ), FIS based on port multiplier switch or command switching and hot plug. Compatible with SATA6G, 3G and 1.5G hard drives. User with SATA3.0 data cable for best results. The card came with a CD or DVD for firmware, but I have not used it and HexOS is currently operating smoothly with the card. Cheers, E. 2 Quote
dchane Posted March 21 Posted March 21 I have the BEYIMEI PCIe 8 port SATA Card for $48.00 from Amazon and it is detecting my drives in BIOS but not in Hex OS. It came with a small disk but I have no idea how to install the drivers. The drives are brand new. I am not sure if they need to be initialized before using them in Hex OS if that can be done in Hex OS or do the drives even need to be initialized. Any help would be appreciated. Info: PCIe SATA Card 8 Ports, with 8 SATA Cables, Power Splitter Cable andLow Profile Bracket, SATA 3.0 Controller Expansion Card, PCI-E X1 3.0 Gen3 (6Gbps) Controller Card (ASM1064+JMB575) 8 Ports Sata Card--- This PCIE SATA card allows you to add 8 SATA 3.0 6Gbps devices to your computer. dchane Posted March 21 Posted March 21 After posting my last reply I noticed in the description that it only supports PCI-E X4/ X8/ X16 (This SATA 3.0 expansion card is only suitable for motherboard slots via PCI-E . Do not apply to PCI slots). I had it in a PCI-E X1 slot. Once I moved it over to a PCI-E X16 slot and refreshed the Hex OS dashboard it began reading the drives. So in this case it was user error. I think this post will be helpful for anyone else like me who does not read information thoroughly before installing things, lol. I hope this helps anyone else who comes across this same issue. I did not need to install drivers or initialize any drives. Thank goodness.... I have the BEYIMEI PCIe 8 port SATA Card for $48.00 from Amazon and it is detecting my drives in BIOS but not in Hex OS.
