Hello,

I don't know if it was already posted as I am blind or there is no search option?

I've just got licanse for HexOS and was very exited so I got myself HP EliteDesk 800 SSfG2 i5-6600, 16 GB RAM. I am planing to use it for photo backups and 1080p plex to livingroom TV. I was just playing around with it updating BIOS etc. as I don't have my invite yet and waiting for drives. I've noticed that it don't have M.2 slot ( I know I should double check it), I've checked documenation and it got 3 x SATA 3.0 I was planing to put 2 storage drives + boot drive. How much of impact it will have if I use normal SSD? Plus I was thinking about PCI-E extention but not sure if it will support boot from it as I can't find information about it. I would apreasiate inside about it.

you won't feel the difference, maybe a couple seconds at boot time, but that's negligible since a server is supposedly on 24/7 anyway

if you run out of sata ports you could always buy a cheap PCIE to sata (or PCIE to nvme) adapter off aliexpress (depending on what you get you MAY be band limited, so do your research before buying!)

As above ,  you won't see any difference ..

I have the 800 G3 7500 ( year younger than yours)  and was  able to use a PCIe M.2 card without any issues, a long with 2.5gb NIC

i ran truenas from it - for a little while back using just a Sata SSD with out problems..

mine has the M.2 slot and was able to use the  M.2 slot and PCIe M.2 card together as a cache  drive  for truenas

with a sata boot drive .... and two HDD's

My M.2 slot is right at the back under the lift up tray ( HDD's) im guessing you have looked under there to see iif there is a Slot for a M.2 ,

or it may not have been introduced  yet on you Mobo

you can get quite a bit out  with these little SFF Pc's

Hello,

I've chceked and back in bolted in so I can't even get to it without destroying the case, so I can safely assume there is nothing in the back.

(I've tried to edit the post and it said that it was deleted or moved, so I had to post a new replay)

Sorry I may have worded wrong when I said " lift up tray "

I didn't mean the mobo tray lol

I ment the tray that the hdd's and optical drive are in

When looking from the front of the pc the m..2 will be at the front of the motherboard

However I'm thinking yours may be a year old , and the m.2 didn't start to appear until the 7000th series cpus .

Hello,

Nah I've checked that too before, from the photo it looks like my mobo is shorter. I can see that there are traces for M.2 tho hehe. Thanks anyways for taking your time! This is just a start build and see if it is going to be usefull so for now I will accept little quirks. Just ordered two used Ironwolfs 4 TB, so the only thing is left is licanse for hexos and probably NIC.

You'll probably be fine with the on board LAN  , im guessing it just the standard 1gb port on the mobo ..

how ever if your like my self , messing around with things like a NAS build can and will lead into the ribbit hole lol

i'v bought 2.5gb nic, 2.5gb network switches ..   PCIe cards for extra M.2's , but iv also used parts iv had laying around ... HDD's, SSD's extra RAM ...

when the standard PC is enough to get you up and running lol !
