  1. I second the stickers 😄 Or maybe an ltt-store collab?
  2. Hi, Comparing a NAS with backup options in iCloud or Google is always a bit difficult. For example, with Immich you can transfer your pictures from your mobile phone to your NAS and access them in a very similar way to iCloud Photos or Google Photos. However, it is an external app that, especially in the case of ios, is not integrated into the operating system at the same level. The same applies to files. With ios, you can only create a backup of your mobile phone manually and then copy it to your Nas. You can do a lot of things if you really want to and are prepared to experiment a little. But it all involves more effort and less convenience.
  3. I have installed a 6-port expansion card and have no problems with it. If it is supported in TrueNAS, it also works with HEX-OS and TrueNAS fortunately supports a lot.
  4. The username ist: truenas_admin The password was set by you during installation
  5. Unfortunately, Steam in Home Streaming only works if you also have Steam installed on your host PC. Since HEX-OS is based on TrueNAS and is therefore not a desktop operating system, this is unfortunately not possible. You could possibly install Windows or Linux as a virtual machine and use it to realise Steam in home streaming. However, this requires some technical knowledge. It would be easier if you could simply install Windows/Linux on a second ssd and boot your old PC with it if necessary. You'll have to reboot every time you want to switch between Windows/Linux and Hex-OS, but it's the easiest option I can think of right now.
  6. @Sese-Schneider oh, what a shame. I didn't use it in my setup, but I was hoping that at least some of the manual configuration options would already be usable.
  7. As soon as you have activated a licence in the hub, you can also unlink it there again. As far as I understand it, this frees up the licence to be activated for another hardware/Hex OS installation.
  8. I think I heard in the LTT announcement video that Raid z2 is automatically selected during installation for five or more drives. However, during the installation there is also the option of configuring the respective pools manually.
  9. In TrueNas there is an option to set a sleep/standby mode for HDDs. In my experience, however, this does not work in such a way that the hard drives actually shut down reliably after a certain time. TrueNas accesses the disks too often for various reasons, even if no user data is being written. I would like to see a reliable standby option for HDDs (perhaps for an entire pool) that actually spins down the hard drives completely. My use case (perhaps a bit special) is that I have all my active data in an SSD pool and only use my hard drives as bulk storage for old data and as a first backup of my SSD pool. Therefore, my hard drive pool would only need to be active for direct user access or once a day for an automatic backup of the SSD pool and otherwise not run. But maybe there is another solution that I haven't found yet?
