  1. If you find a way to use makeMKV and a DVD drive let me know! I gave it an attempt a while back but couldn’t figure out how to identify the DVD drive or get the docker container to work.
  2. This is a good solution. I would recommend waiting until the beta is over first this way you aren’t paying for longer than you need. Unless you want to try the beta. It’s just gonna eat a lot of bandwidth on your network, if you upload and download TBs of data. So depending on your provider might not make a ton of sense. I think backblaze can send you the HDD with your data on it. So if you want to upload, then have them mail the drive that could be a work around.
  3. Honestly no idea if it’s a good enough cooler. 😅 I haven’t noticed it drastically slowing down. I might keep a better eye on temps now when I use things that might hit it a little harder. I think if I tried high frame rate gaming it would thermal throttle. But I only do things in short bursts from AI stuff. So I don’t think it stays hot long enough to throttle. Which is what I haven’t thought about swapping it out with something better.
  4. That’s the plan moving forward. I’m still semi new to building computers. I know how to, and I know some differences but get completely lost in the naming conventions. Core count, threads, clock speeds for the most part makes sense. But like the architecture and what the model name means and if that’s a “good” CPU I’m completely clueless. lol. So when I eventually need to upgrade or replace it’ll be interesting, or when I build a system for my partner.
  5. I only picked up 2 SSDs so I didn’t wipe my main machine. I just did a new build back in September so I really didn’t need to get anything else. Not looking forward to the possible Tariffs. lol I should be good for a while though. If I end up building a new machine I might try the scrap yard wars method. Just getting second hand parts (just not drives)
  6. So I know that this is extreme overkill, and that for a beta this is probably the dumbest thing I can do, but I keep like 4 copies of everything and enjoy the pain of learning new things. Even if it can be frustrating at times. The build: Ryzen 9 7950X3D RTX 4090 64 GB RAM 5 X 18 TB HHD 1 TB m.2 SSD 1 TB SATA SSD Didn’t realize that most NAS softwares (I think) don’t work with disk drives 😅 I use it primarily for playing with AI. I’ve setup Ollama and used comfyUI while on windows. I have a code server setup so I can work on Minecraft plugins and then use Jellyfin as a streaming replacement. I’m planning on using the file system to replace ICloud as I have Immich also setup. Slowly working on replacing services I pay for with local solutions. In the meantime I’ve learned a TON on networking, data management, and docker.
  7. Your drives when building your first pool in HexOS will be wiped. They have to be to setup the new pools. Same applies to the expand option, or creating other pools. It is highly encouraged and recommend to not use HexOS during its beta as your only means of storage or as a full roll out. You should 100% backup everything from your windows server before trying out HexOS I had a similar setup using windows and then switched to HexOS. .
  8. That would be sweet! personally I want to use something like a raspberry pi for something like that or for the 2FA codes. I haven’t taken the time yet to see if that is possible, but to use Hexos or a NAS to backup and generate passwords would be pretty sweet, especially if there is an easy (but secure) way to access them where ever I need it.
