Decided to go with big switch ( more ports ) With the cost of two sfp+'s. for a few quid more I can have a lot more ports At the moment I would using all the ports up that's available. Every now and again I'm building a pc and upgrading laptops, so with the extra ports on the switch it will save me from unplugged other devices. 1st world problems lol

Sfp+ came today , tried it and it started to fail very quickly, transferring a few movie data files from one place to an other about 3tb worth of data and it dropped from 256MBps to just 50MBps in a short time, tried a few ways but was getting the same result, so this is getting returned unfortunately..

Thanks I ordered a sfp+ last night should be coming today , So will test it out, Like Normal basics web browsing and YouTube, and file transfers of a max speed of 2.5gb But it will mostly be for web browsing. just for home use so nothing fancy at all lol

I have a switch which has two unused 10g SFP ports , i would like to start and use them but only for say running a ethernet cable to tv that barely get used and for a PC that is mainly used for light browsing again doesn't get much use ... so seen as there not going to get much use , how hot will these run when their are in use ? max speed running through the ports would be 1gb

Thanks but quite what is was asking , which is , 🙂 I have a Sodola network switch , but want to replace it with the Flex mini 2.5gb but i don't have any other Ubiquiti equipment . is it possible to use the flex mini just by it's self ?
-
Not sure if this is the place to ask , Been looking at this switch .. but not sure if i use it as a stand alone switch or do i need any other of the Ubiquiti hardware to run the switch? https://uk.store.ui.com/uk/en/products/usw-flex-2-5g-5

It's working , but iv had to use a PCIE m.2 card, and it's now showing up 🤷
-
Having tried 3 different drives now, none can be seen when trying to install the OS... all 3 drives are showing up in the Bios and are working drives which iv tested before. Iv disconnect all drives apart from the M.2 and tried installing the OS , but again it's not showing up Edit , just tried Truenas scale , and that won't see the M.2 neither but iv had windows 11 running on the Dell optiplex without any issues .. secure boot is set to off within the Bios ..

Thanks, I'll hang on for a bit till pick up a 3rd drive 👍

Off topic, I got a surprise yesterday which I was noy expecting, bought some walking shoes a year ago and had walked the soles off them , literally right down !! was in the shoe shop the other day and mentioned their were leaking water in , the assistant told me they was two warranty on them , bring them in and they would exchange them ,, So I did!! and got a brand new pair free of charge, I was gob smacked 🤯 Like I say shy boys get nothing if you don't ask haha 😆

Well done and congrats ... as the saying is "Shy boy/girls get nout - if you dont ask" lol

Yes you can have 2 Pool's running 👍 Just setup your 1st pool, say the SSD's , get it sorted to where your happy with it , then add the HDD's and create the 2nd Pool and get that up and running.. 🙂

You'll probably be fine with the on board LAN , im guessing it just the standard 1gb port on the mobo .. how ever if your like my self , messing around with things like a NAS build can and will lead into the ribbit hole lol i'v bought 2.5gb nic, 2.5gb network switches .. PCIe cards for extra M.2's , but iv also used parts iv had laying around ... HDD's, SSD's extra RAM ... when the standard PC is enough to get you up and running lol !
-
Sorry I may have worded wrong when I said " lift up tray " I didn't mean the mobo tray lol I ment the tray that the hdd's and optical drive are in When looking from the front of the pc the m..2 will be at the front of the motherboard However I'm thinking yours may be a year old , and the m.2 didn't start to appear until the 7000th series cpus .
-
if it will let you create the pool! Then it takes the smaller drive - 4tb But it also turn the other two drives into 4tb , which as you see would a total waste of the larger drives.

Just let HexOS do it's magic ✨️

I'm running a intel 7500 ( yea its old ) z270 mobo 16gb ram and 5 hdd's ( no gpu) I'm able to stream plex at " direct play " too two device , and one of them is over wifi !! No issues at all 🙂
-
As above , you won't see any difference .. I have the 800 G3 7500 ( year younger than yours) and was able to use a PCIe M.2 card without any issues, a long with 2.5gb NIC i ran truenas from it - for a little while back using just a Sata SSD with out problems.. mine has the M.2 slot and was able to use the M.2 slot and PCIe M.2 card together as a cache drive for truenas with a sata boot drive .... and two HDD's My M.2 slot is right at the back under the lift up tray ( HDD's) im guessing you have looked under there to see iif there is a Slot for a M.2 , or it may not have been introduced yet on you Mobo you can get quite a bit out with these little SFF Pc's

Help! Old PC Case only has 2 Drive Bays (I have 4 HDDs)
Syko replied to TheCroShow's topic in Hardware
Hdd caddy or as above, 3d print one if you know someone, have a look on etsy iv seen a few on the UK site ( not sure where your from ) That's what I had to do in my make shift nas box A 2 bay caddy could be mounted under the gpu towards the front of the case 🤔 And use the two underneath for the other 2 drivers.
