Instructions here worked for me, though I have to either launch the webUI via TrueNas UI, or manually using the IP:port.

Thank you for the detailed response to my vent post. Sorry, This is the first time I’ve logged in since writing it. Also responding on an ipad so little more difficult to respond. I did want to take a moment to comment on two pieces. re: devlogs - it may seem like I’m stuck on that, but it’s not because I’m a zealot about such things or even a wish to read long technical updates. Really it was more about delivering to the community an ongoing sentiment of progress and altering the perception that arises. I really wasn’t advocating for your team to all start blogging things here. More for a single person to deliver even a two-liner like “we made significant progress the last two weeks on encryption. No new delays.” Or “Murphy hit us this week and we’ve had to shift our timeline. Added three weeks to our expected ship.” - yes, I hate doing the devlogs myself , but once Iwas forced to start doing it the pressure and expectations surrounding project expectations made life so much better. Thus my push, but I totally understand your position on this. re: apps - There isn’t one specific thing I was looking to create or port as it all depended on immediate use case (back then it was a friendly working version of home assistant). More-so it was a ‘hey, we can do these things for and as a community while you guys focus on the core/more important stuff. Thanks again! I’ll try and stay a little more updated with what’s going on. Might boot up the machine I was using and ch3ckout the latest updates if I get a chance later today.

Thinking from swapping from Proxmos.. couple of question before I take the plunge.
Mobius replied to Morphexe's question in OS & Features
At this time hexos doesn't handle the creating or managing of VMs as far as i am aware, the feature was delayed while main truenas scale figures out what they wanna do. Truenas scale had transitioned to incus in TN scale 25 but they started detransitioning or something While you can setup and use VMs for now it'll have to be done via the truenas interface i haven't done it myself yet so i can't really comment on its ease. At the very least gpu pass through works for me for jellyfin and immich, i haven't tested anything else. Rule of thumb is that if it works on truenas scale it'll most likely work on hexos I have multiple zfs pools that are accessed by multiple mac and windows computers at the same time. Hexos uses the SMB (samba) protocol to make shares available to the network and i do believe most linux distros support smb. at this time there are some hoops to jump through. You need to either setup a reverse proxy, something like tailscale or a cloudflare/pangolin tunnel. i found setting up a cloudflare tunnel was most straight forward but you need to own a domain for that. always happy to help. honestly tho if you are running 20+ vms proxmox makes sense. you can even run hexos as a vm in proxmox and let it handle all your non vm needs. hexos also has a 30 day refund policy so you can try and see if you think it'll work for you. - Today

So I have a proxmox server up and running. I do have a few VMs and containers, currently 23 instances of various OS (windows, etc) and Docker container. How easy is to setup VMs/Containers? One big thing is I need to do GPU Passthrough - and ideally other hardware passthrough.. Both for PLEX/Jellyfin, and some AI, and windows Hosts. Is this supported, or will I need to go around hoops to get this to work? I have a ZFS pool that I absolutelly need to import as well as is, and ideally have it available to both windows/linux users - any caveats here? Last but not least, I have tailscale get access from outside my home network, is this a supported feature, or do I again need to jump through hoops to get it working? Sorry for the battery of questions, but after wasting a couple of weekends trying to fix a botched updated, I am looking for something a bit more stable/less configuration heavy. Cheers!~

Is HexOS currently stable enough to be used as a long term storage solution?
Cantos replied to aguywithaname's question in OS & Features
HexOS itself is in early development, so caution is warranted regarding it. However, HexOS is built on top of TrueNAS, which is a mature, enterprise grade software, which is definitely good enough for your purposes. -
Sorry for the novice question. I'm currently building/setting up a NAS for the first time and wanted to use primarily for syncing/storing family photos, documents, music and video. I bought a HexOS license last year during black Friday and have only gotten the chance to set it up now. But I was wondering, since the OS is still technically in beta, can it be trusted to store my important files? I've seen posts on this forum and on reddit with people experiencing issues of their pools disappearing, issues with running apps, or unable to access their servers after power outages. I’m a complete noob so I’m not sure if I’d be able to successfully troubleshoot losing access to my data, so I wanted to ask if it would be a bad idea to use HexOS as it currently is now as my primary storage solution? Should I be using a more developed platform instead? As I sidenote, I realize that having a backup of my files (either in the cloud or on a seperate system) is the most important thing, but my current issue now is that I don't have enough drives for a backup (but will happen in the future) and I want a central place I can store/access my files from multiple devices.

we do get updates on what to expect with each blogpost with this one being the latest one https://hexos.com/blog/status-update-amp-zfs-leadership-call-tonight but yeah it would be a good idea if any updates were incorporated into the roadmap page as well. I imagine the q3 update blog post will be arriving near the end of q3

I would really like to see folding at home for HexOS
-
Is there a new roadmap or can we get a new road map? the one on the website is coming up on a year old.

Importing Existing Pools Update
nateland replied to crewsjohn2's topic in Roadmap & Feature Requests
I'm running HexOS with imported pools. It was a bit buggy on the HexOS side for a while but its mostly sorted out now. You just install HexOS as a fresh install and then go into the truenas dashboard and import the pools there. They show up in HexOS and you can edit things from there -
What Apps Would we want to see Supported?
LocatedMaple38 replied to Sam of Ham's topic in Applications
AMP for game server would be nice to have -
I have found the only way to do this is to go into the Truenas back end, and manually create the necessary folders under the Media folder. Then when you return back to the Hexos screens you can double click on the datasets and shares to drill down to the media folder, and underneath should be all the necessary folders.
-
I think I am replying, I did manually install the app the way you say you did and my gpu does show up in shell, but not in plex. Do I have to disable my 730 graphics. it would be nice. I cant play anything past my blue rays. CPU does not seem to transcode
-
Thank you both for the answers. I'll look into it and start saving up for both the drive fra a complete backup of my media data and the HBA card for future HexOS use.

Second Update: Since it had worked for qBittorrent, went over into TrueNAS and tried to install Immich there. Worked first try, no issues. Seems to be some issue for HexOS. Should I submit this as a potential bug somewhere?
-
Update for the above: Solved the first issue. Problem was being based in China. docker.io is blocked so I had to run things through a VPN to get it working. Was able to install Plex and qBittorent this way. However... Went to install Immich and it seemed to mostly work. I think it downloaded most of what it needed to, but then it failed. Checked the logs and it's not a docker.io error. This is what I'm getting now. Any help?

the standard for plex/jellyfin is onboard intel igpu because it has access to intel quicksync. as a bonus you will be saving a LOT of money over the years not paying for dgpu idle electricity costs

I just saw this @zczachor and I had a similar post myself, Maybe read some the things there, and look what suits your needs: I also linked it in the other post but this was my final build: https://nl.pcpartpicker.com/b/dHBj4D One of the things to keep in mind: Intel and dedicated GPU is best if you want to use Plex on your HexOS installation. or even the on-board GPU for the intel I believe is slightly better then the on-board of AMD (I have not tested this personally, and for me an on-board AMD is enough, even as a Virtual machine).

The below in simple installs is what I'd be after please: Frigate Scrypted Home Assistant File Browser

Scratch that, all setup now, just trying to get plex to work now

I was able to fix the problem on my own after a bunch of troubleshooting. It turns out my name server was wrong. Changing it to 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 fixed the issue.
-
Hey all, I'm brand new to the server stuff and from what I looked up hex looked to be the way to go but I've hit a snag. I made my boot media but when I boot and select the install I get this and can't get pass it.
-
Just did an install of HexOS. Immediately updated to the latest version based on it asking (24.10.2.4). Was able to create a regular user. It's seeing my pool, everything else seems normal. Now trying to install apps (Plex and Immich) and none of them are working. Keep getting the same error: I've seen the solutions about setting your DNS in the Network settings, but that's not working for me. I'm based in China so I can't use 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8, but I tried setting them to the DNS my modem would normally use. Tried a few different ones. Tried them with my router as the third option and leaving that blank. Tried restarting the server a bunch of times. Checked in TrueNAS that it's also seeing those nameservers I'm setting in HexOS as options (it is). Anyone know any other solutions?

hot and cold storage automations
marvin.the.robot replied to marvin.the.robot's topic in Roadmap & Feature Requests
After doing a little research, I might try the following and see if it will work: setup a Z1 pool of ssd's and a Z1 pool of hdd's, then use MergerFS to manage the hot/cold storage
