  1. Today
  2. Oops. In my message above I meant to link to a couple of the places it says don't update TrueNas yet but it seems I get ahead of myself. Sorry for any confusion.
  3. This may or may not help at all, but I had issues with connting to my server until I went into my router and reserved the IP that my server is using, If youdl did not do this right away and your router decided to give you a new IP then well your gonna have to set it up as a new server unless you know the IP you first used and manually assign it back to that server under the TrueNAS side. I also had an issue with network bridging when setting it up on the hexos side it will give out a new IP even if you have your router setup to only use a certain IP, so again you will have to go into the truenas side and manually assign the correct IP to that bridge, hopefully this will help someone, idk ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it might be something else all together but I'm kinda shooting in the wind with what little info that was provided.

    Plex Update

Updating TrueNas is not recommended at this moment. In many cases it will break HexOs.
  5. See nascompares.com. In the subsection TrueNas you will find a lot of guides. Also for Ugreen, Qnap, Asustor, ….
  6. Accidentally changed the title, please ignore it. I have not seen anyone mention using that but i think people have gotten truenas to work on the similarly priced and i think slightly stronger UGREEN NASync DXP4800 I would have suggested an Aoostar machine as a lot of users had good luck with them and they cost less but if you are located in the united states its no longer a price competitive option because tarrifs.
  7. Has anyone tried this ?
  8. Be careful with that because I did and I lost access to my DVR. When I looked at the Plex forum I saw several more folks with the same issue I had. If that is not a concern for you the update process is in TrueNAS. The dashboard shows the number of available updates, which for me is everything I have deployed including TrueNAS itself.

  10. New to this HexOS. How can I updated to the newest Plex version?
  11. I just purchased this on eBay @ a very cheap price for 2 PowerEdge T630 servers (with HDDs (16x900GB and 4x 2TB)) for only $147.50 for everything. Only reason I got it so cheap was because Im local and the seller would only ship to people via freight. Now I have my backup replication server(s) for my homelab

  15. Thanks so much for this @Todd Miller - It's helpful and interesting, especially the word Experience of Technical. I would like to write a post specifically about what I do and don't know about HexOS and how that has affected me so far. The difficulty I have is in describing what I don't know, I am not yet at a stage where I have figured that out for HexOS. I found it easier to write what I do and don't know about building a PC, for that first post, as I've been watching LTT for years so I have herad a lot of words I don't understand. For HexOS I felt like I knew almost nothing. I will have a bash at a first draft and maybe we can work on it here? Try and add in some terminology and fill in some total blanks!
  16. Last week
  17. I tried again just now and was able to connect.
  18. At this time there isn't such a place. i know a lot of users do want such a thing
  19. Is there a place to view nightly changes, updates, fixes, etc. ? If not, I think it would be a good idea to all that have paid for the software to see information about the work and progress that is being done.
  20. I've scheduled some time for myself this weekend to go to plain TrueNAS Scale. I don't see the benefit of HexOS yet. I am very eager for when it becomes worth it however almost everything I have done with the exception of creating shares, I have needed to switch over to TrueNAS GUI to accomplish. I'm not sure if this is on my end or if it is a HexOS thing, but I find the user interface to be unbelievable slow most of the time. I can have a fresh boot, let everything finish starting up and then I will click on Storage and wait a good 1-2 minutes before the icons actually show. My hardware is no super-computer but its definitely no slouch either. No hate towards the service/product, just don't think its for me.
  21. I wanted to use HexOS for my family's all-around backup server for all of our devices, plus a single location for Plex, immich, and vaultwarden. I thought that it would be simple but I'm seeing that the vaultwarden app is something that isn't ready as a curated HexOS app yet. Hoping that changes soon as I think that would justify the price.
  22. If you need to fall back the TrueNas to run an app, I would be suspicious of it having installed successfully. I can't say it is unacceptable though because it is the app (like Immich or Plex) running regardless of how you got there. When I had a similar issue it was because of a security issue with the folders that someone helped me with so I bet it could be a lot of things.
  23. My launch button also doesn't work. What I have done instead is open up truenas, click apps in the left hand side, find and select immich, then in the right click "Web UI". That should open up the correct web browser, then just bookmark that for future.
  24. so i would like it to fit in a networking cabinet, which is not as deep.. i am also not married with a rack mount, if it's a simple form factor as a tower, that';s fine. i currently have a synology DS3615 with 1 expansion bay which is perfect as a form factor.
  25. I don't think what you want is possible in a single chassis. One of the only half depth chassis i can think of is the Sliger CX3701. (by half depth i am assuming you mean 15" or shorter" It's 3u, can fit a mITX motherboard only and has 10 bays of storage. Every mITX mobo i can find only has one pcie slot. But even then i don't think you can find an elegant way to get enough sata ports with a mITX mobo to 10 internal drives and 14 more external drives even with hbas since i don't think broadcom makes a 16e8i hba. The only way i can think of is getting a 24 internal hba and have 14 go outside the case and 8 stay inside and use 2 mobo sata. things do change a little bit if you have space for 18" depth. The Sliger CX3702 can support mATX mobo and some of those do have multiple pcie slots letting you use 2 different hba cards. That said i still can't think of any external enclosures that'll fit the extra drives. Without depth as a factor, so used super micro stuff might work for you? TLDR: i can't think of any good options for half depth.
  26. Perhaps 45drives / 45homelabs suits your needs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibrOOaYNtJ4 https://45homelab.com/?srsltid=AfmBOopoy3DLgbUc0gcO-KJF9JSFQdNElCXuwmDG4ASU0pnspj5Lc8fe
  27. thanks @stringtrain i kinda got to that point. but that brings me back to the original issue.. i can either go with something reliable, like an old HP storage chassis which introduces a crazy amount of noise, or i can go with things like an icybox solution. which is frankly, going to fail thanks to power buttons per bay etc. etc. there just doesn't seem to be an off the shelf solution on which hexos will play nicely 😞
  28. @PsychoWards didn't know that, thanks for the heads up! @Sonic I believe my USW-24 is passively cooled, but it's hooked up to a UDM Pro SE which should have a CPU fan and a chassis fan, and the room has both air conditioning and a Vornado air circulator. I think it should be fine. thanks for the responses 🙂
