  2. Hello, I have a similar issue. As I changed my network setting on my router, I had to reclaim my existing server in old class C network scope. Now that the HexOS server is configured with the new Class C network (IP and DNS) the server is reachable via the detection mode on the HexOS command deck. If I proceed with the claim I type in the adminPW and then comes the point of no return, from my point of view. The setup guide asks about storage pools and warns with erasing all data on it. As I have some important stuff stored on the drives, this step is a show stopper for now. I could need some help, how to continue. Do I go the route by configuring the pools afterwards, hoping my filesystem is healthy and working afterwards? I really don't know what to do, don't wann amess something up and waiting for some input from you. Thanks in advance and have a good one. PW: If this post doesn't fit in here, please feel free to put it where it belongs or send me some kind of notice, if I have to take action.
  3. looks good to me it has an intel nic 6 sata ports 3 m.2 ports (just double deck if there are any ports that get disabled if you try to fully populate all the ports) yeah its always hard to gauge power draw. there is too little understanding out there about it.
  4. not exactly. it depends on what chipset is powering the ethernet port. Many mobos come with realtek powered nics (network interface cards) and a large chunk of those give problems. there are some mobos that come without problematic chipsets like the ones powered by an intel nic (an intel mobo can still have a realtek nic) honestly i think your 6th gen i5 might still have a good enough time transcoding videos in plex. GPU transcoding is supported but the main reason we try not to use gpus is a mix of factors but can be boiled down to cost. 1) price of gpu 2) price of electricity - even at idle a gpu will be using a decent bit more in electricity and that adds up. i say give it a shot without your an igpu and if you really feel limited add the gpu later.
  5. Hi again! I've been scouring Marketplace and stumbled upon this set for a decent price: i7 8700 ASUS Z-370 F 16GB DDR4 Any red flags that you spot, for the same use case in my OP? I'm mildly concerned about idle power draw.
  6. Hello everyone. I am also building a NAS. From what I see here, you don't recommend using the Ethernet port on the mobo? Also, I'm using an older i5 6th gen. Would it not be better to use a GPU for video encoding for Plex, or is that not supported?

  8. I could be wrong but afaik slog wouldn't really increase speeds since it'll only hold a couple seconds of transfer time only. client > server RAM > SLOG > pool (HDD/SSD) Regardless of what os you access from
  9. Thank you for your reply, @Mobius. That does make sense. To your final note, hopefully by stable, if we manually create these vdevs in TrueNAS, they can play nicely with HexOS. — I agree: I believe folks recommend the special vdev to have the same redundancy as the data vdevs; if it were to be added, hopefully that recommendation could be prominent. I've heard mixed things about performance: for many-file directories, it can feel snappier, which is what I hope. SLOG: ah, I had another angle. My main interest are a couple of wired Macs on our network as Macs write to SMB synchronously (straight to HDDs), without fast RAM-first writes like Windows machines. But with an SLOG, Macs write to this faster SLOG vdev, allowing the transfer to complete faster. So with an SLOG, Macs have virtually identical write performance as Windows. But without the SLOG, Macs write a little slower. We definitely use a UPS; it's a solid investment for data integrity as you get PLP for the whole server! A great recommendation.
  10. i'm not gonna go as far as saying never gonna happen but i'd say its on the furthest back burner if at all. special vdev is a scary one to implement because if it goes down, itll take the whole pool down with it on top of not being very useful for most homelab users slog also doesn't make the most sense for most users as to my best understanding it only really protects you in case of power loss and at that point you might be better served just getting a ups. Personally i do run a triple mirror special vdev on my storage pool and i think it causes some stability issues with hexos.
  11. Hello! Are there plans for HexOS to allow users to use (mirrored) SSDs for ZFS' tiered storage optimizations? The main three uses I'm thinking of: Enable high-endurance mirrored SSDs to accept synchronous writes (SLOG) Enable mirrored SSDs to store all file metadata (special vdev) Enable mirrored SSDs to store all small files (special vdev) While I'm sure popping into TrueNAS (for those with that experience) would work, I think implementing these directly in HexOS would be quite beneficial even for consumers with many small files and / or macOS devices. While not all performance-based vdevs are helpful in most scenarios, these would be great, especially the special vdev for small files, e.g., use the ultra-fast random access of SSDs for video editing project files or documents (special vdev) and especially the SLOG vdev for macOS SMB writes (always sync writes). Of course, in some far and away future, HexOS would identify when these vdevs would significantly improve performance, but manually turning them on & testing them out would also be neat through HexOS. I'm intentionally ignoring L2ARC, which requires much more careful hardware selection & tuning to get any benefit.
  12. So actually we do want to have an official discord (in fact, we already have it "parked" so-to-speak), but we want to wait to roll it out when we can be more prepared to manage it. Our team is entirely revving on dev cycles right now and adding comms platforms to manage to an already thinly spread set of resources is only going to overwhelm and delay development. Bottom line is that I'm all we've got for official comms right now and I'm spread insanely thin at the moment. I really want to hire someone to take over communications for me, but the timing for that is more likely Q4 or even Q1 2026.
  13. I am betting that there are folks besides the devs and admins with both practical knowledge within TrueNAS and an understanding of security best practices. I think they are being quiet now because they don't want to get dragged into forum arguments and focus on their own setup. Those folks following that approach will be much more valuable to the beta than I am right now because when something they are trying doesn't work, it is more likely to be a real issue. When I get something to work besides the one-click apps I was using the 'on a wing and a prayer' approach. I got Tailscale and Nextcloud both working but I can't tell anybody how exactly.
  14. q2 update thread is linked below I updated the title of the thread to make it more clear that this is the thread for the q2 update. There have been multiple smaller updates since the q2 update as well. All the info can be seen in the announcements section of the forum. I believe there are no plans to make an official discord
  15. Last week
  16. I am happy to hear about the security thoughts! One of the reasons that I haven't played with my setup much is that I don't want to expose it to the outside world and have it hacked. I also have a Synology DS1512+(older one that will be replaced someday once this is up and running) that seems to be set up well in regards to security for this moment, but I feel that my HexOS system might be opened to anyone with the knowledge to hack (which is not me). One of the settings that I have on the Synology that I like is that I can allow traffic from ONLY the US (or Canada or Brazil or only......) and that makes me feel more secure because the whole earth is not able to access my system from the outside. At some point, I'm hoping that the HexOS community will show me how to secure my system in similar ways - through TrueNAS or through HexOS or through an app. Thanks for listening HexOS!
  17. It's a little worrying that we don't really have much information what is happening right now. Was the update postoned because of the extra ZFS developments? I'm a patient early bird, but some communication would be awsome... Is there any plan to create an official HexOS discord channel? Many companies should learn from Unknown Worlds Entertainment (the developers of Subnautica) communication.
  18. Nevermind. I saw the half size bracket included in the card.
  19. Hi. I have one more question. The case only have half size expansion cards slots on the back. Not full size. Should I look for another one? Cheers.
  20. Hey, did you ever find answers to this? I have a similar use case.
  21. This is more complicated than I thought. Need to find the TrueNAS Community Chart number that corresponds to Immich v1.132.0 Somehow tell TrueNAS to use that Chart number (from what I can see, there's no way to do this, but I'm a novice TrueNAS user) Start Immich at least once using Immich v1.132.0 Upgrade to the latest chart number, which is v1.9.17 at the time of this writing. The problem I see is that I can't tell TrueNAS to use a specific chart number for Immich, even when trying to install a new version. I only ever have one option, which is the latest version. I'm unsure how the HexOS Team could automate this upgrade process to make it invisible to the user. Maybe that's why it's taking so long?
  22. Now it's on version 1.138.xx I attempted to update it through the underlying TrueNAS, but encountered errors due to an invalid migration path from TypeORM, which prevented Immich from starting. So I googled and I saw this post from January. Plex and Syncthing updated fine, however. It's just immich who is not happy. So we're supposed to wait for the HexOS team to update the catalog manually? I am going to try this next: https://immich.app/errors/#typeorm-upgrade
  23. Thanks for trying to help, but as I said I've done all the steps. That's why I asked if someone used a different trick.
  24. Are you able to send me the problem presented in /var/log/app_lifecycle.log ? And just to confirm. in your network settings, your Nameservers are listed like this - If you have you have a different address in Nameserver 1 (by default I believe its your public IP address) it may not work correctly.
  25. glad i could help
  26. OK. Thanks for your help. I think I have all my questions answered. I will make a new post if I have any questions about setting up the HexOS. Cheers!
  27. the jonsbo n4 case has ventilation holes all along the top of the case the 70mm coolers wouldn't really be chocked and would likely be bringing in fresh air from outside of the case
  28. Alright then. It also says that it has IT mode P20 Firmware already. I will go with your build and this extension card then. One last question, I think. I have checked the case details, and it says that the tallest CPU cooler is 70mm. I have then looked at this 65mm Noctua: Noctua NH-L9x65 chromax.black 33.84 CFM CPU Cooler (NH-L9x65 chromax.black) - PCPartPicker There is only 5mm of spare room. Would this not choke the cooler if I go with it? Or should I go instead with Noctua NH-L9i-17xx chromax.black 33.84 CFM CPU Cooler (NH-L9i-17xx chromax.black) - PCPartPicker that is 37mm OR this black Thermalright Thermalright AXP90-X47 42.58 CFM CPU Cooler (AXP90-X47 BLACK) - PCPartPicker 47mm tall?
