  3. Evening, or morning for some. Here is my rantings about Permissions. If asked you what an app in the app user or group would be able to do with the following permissions, what would you say? USER : READ WRITE EXECUTE GROUP : READ WRITE EXECUTE OTHER : READ WRITE EXECUTE You'd think that yeah the apps should be able to read, write, execute etc. (Before you ask, yes the user/group were both set to App), but for some god unknown reason no. it didn't want to. Then eventually after a random stripe it did work and then I realized, "hey I can't access my shows file I set up to review the work of Sonarr?" No I the user, aka the Other in this scenario, CANNOT access my files. Alright I'll just go to ACL and add, "User : ME" Me being Me the user I set up for my Truenas, "Great i can now access my shows... hey why did my TV stop playing Plex videos?" Now my Plex and Sonarr don't see and can't read my shows, Why does adding ME as a 4th user in an ACL cause it to bug out? Alright let's double check maybe my User is set to like some weird settings... Nothing noticeable let's set everyone to be Read write execute again, and for good luck, i'll add an EVERYONE full control of EVERYTHING. For some added context though, this is what I dealt with today for the last hour or so when yesterday I was tearing my hair out with the same issues with just setting up Sonarr. So here's my proposition, a simple feature for simple people. a basic toggle button for what apps see and have permission to each dataset folder.

  5. I don’t think this device is compatible. It has an unsupported cpu.
  6. Those would be bad examples considering at least one of them has not worked for months. They're also the only ones that they ever claimed to support, as far as I am aware. I've found how they deal with issues incredibly unprofessional, but there's still hope they'll improve. I believe the next update is intended to generalize app support as opposed to dealing with each individually. I'm guessing they're trying to add an abstraction layer on top of at least the most common configuration options to simplify things compared to using TrueNAS, which would be very nice and in line with the kind of simplification that is what HexOS is supposed to be all about. I don't expect they'll do anything to offer a migration path for those with existing Immich installations, but I would be very happy to be proven wrong.
  7. Would be happy to read more updates. The last blog post is from May. An update every 4-8 weeks would help maintain belief in this project. Actually, it looks dead.
  8. Anyone try getting HexOS on a Ubiquiti NAS yet? Do we know if its compatible.
  9. Yes, I believe it is the local UI. In some interview or statement earlier this year , Eshtek noted the local UI will spawn its own Docker container. It won’t be built into the OS’ core and IIRC, it will be a minimal UI for simple tasks that won’t replicate the online-required Command Deck. AFAIK, no public updates yet—just to expect it in 1.0 and that’s all. Eshtek seems to be one of those “work in silence” projects so hopefully that focus means a polished good product at the end.

  11. Local access via docker? I missed that bit of information. Are you referring to the local UI or am I off base?
  12. I know what you are trying to say with the under the hood comment but this is still a beta. The devs would be within their rights to say Plex and Immich are just examples of how HexOS apps are simple to deploy. Now if this app goes live and you are still saying the same thing, now that's another story. For now we somewho need to harness the passion and test the options and processes we will use after go live. Otherwise how will the devs know it works on all king of hardware and "unique" combinations to satisfy our expectations?
  13. Very soon... 👀🤫
  14. But we can expect some more soon
  15. Truenas permissions can get real frustrating. Even understanding them is tough. Hopefully we can avoid the tn ui the further Hexos matures
  16. My last post in July 31 , has there been any other applications other than Plex and Immich that are officially sanction? Still seem a lot of users still have to go under the hood to get things running correctly.
  17. I got it figured it out, but it took awhile. I didn't really know much about TrueNas permissions and how it relates to datasets. a cross post to reddit and a few hours of tinkering / YouTube videos got me sorted. Not sure I could painlessly do it again though 😆 Hopefully hexos can simplify the process in the future.
  18. Is there any update on when local access via docker is going to be available soon?
  19. i have always just used rsync in the truenas ui shell, does that work for which users you are trying with?
  20. I've been unable start rsync so that I can transfer files. I went into truenas and enabled SSH. But i get a Permissions denied (publickey) error. I then tried to rsync using a created User but I get another a Permission denied error on the actual files that I want transfered. My theory is that the User doesn't have permissions to create or write to the folder I created. But I already have it set to full access. Any suggestions ? Thanks.
  21. Yes it would be nice if there was a dev blog somewhere with more regular updates. The blog on the main website hasn't had anything since May.
  22. Fully agreed; with HexOS 1.0 stable claimed to be months away, this is when communication needs to be clear and simple. I'm assuming (and we all know what that means) that Eshtek uses calendar quarters, not made-up financial quarters. Thus, pieced together from the little I can see: Q2 (current beta) is based on 24.10.x Q3 (coming beta before Sept 30) may be based on 25.04.x Q4 (coming stable before Dec 31) may be based on 25.10.x I agree; Eshtek ought to put all release information into a chronological blog, IMO (or any one source) Some things are only on reddit, some things only in the forums, some things only on the website, some things only in YouTube interviews, etc. Now, I haven't bought the lifetime license yet so maybe those forums are more regimented. I'm waiting to see this communication at least a little more consistent and open.
  23. Can the System, Storage & Apps on the main 'Dash' page be set in the same <div> class as the 'Platform Folders', and not have to use scroll bars to navigate these sections? It would then also standardise the layout.
  24. Good to know, thank you guys. Maybe something for down the Line, if possible?
  25. And I do run some VM's on it as well / applications. So I prefer to have more memory, than to not have enough. 🙂
  26. Oh great, now we have multiple "official" sources of information. And just to be clear, the calendar third quarter is July 1st to September 30th. That's about twelve days. to Q4. Yeah I know Eshtek is well within their rights to create their own financial calendar that could put the end of Q3 in December like many large corporations. But until we hear differently, we are still in beta with no official release. Just for context I pulled the following definition of beta from google. "A beta refers to the stage in software development where a product is released to a select group of users for testing and feedback before its official launch. It allows developers to gather valuable insights, identify and fix bugs, and make improvements based on user experiences.". I am in the beta because I contributed my cash to the cause like most everyone else in the forums. And correct me if I am wrong but buying into a beta is pretty common, especially on windows or in the gaming world. If the beta needs more work we would just have to accept that but that goes both ways. Saying something coming in Q3 without establishing what Q3 mean and if that expectation is still true is as important and the user community accepting change without clubbing a company over the head with old estimates (if that company is honest and gives updated estimates). Can we establish where the official source is (and if you think you already have, you have completely underestimated a user community ability to wreck your perfectly good plan). And can we stop saying "we didn't promise anything" followed up by "we have already said that would be in the third quarter". Those are quotes take directly from the forum under the title VM & version 1.0. And even though this is a good example of the clubbing with old posts I said we shouldn't do, it is also a good example of this makes perfect sense to the poster but not the audience. Takeaways: User community stop using passive aggressive tactics to try to get your own personal additions unless specifically asked for like "What apps would you like to see next". Developers/moderators/leadership you are physically incapable of over communicating at this juncture of the project. And as I said above, if you think you already have, you have completely underestimated a user community ability to wreck your perfectly good plan. I am so excited about this application and it potential that I have told more that 100 people about it. While many are taking a more conservative approach and waiting for things like the announcement of the monthly price, I have a couple candidates for the buddy backup when it comes available. And as I have said before, this app is already a success for me. I just hope we can start tightening things up soon.
  27. A month ago on /r/hexos, empahsis mine: If we assume the slower track, Q3 (beta) runs on TrueNAS 25.04 Q4 (stable) runs on TrueNAS 25.10 Eshtek's communication is kind of sporadic; their website ought to be the souce of ground truth for key announcements, like a good old chronological blog.
  28. so long as plans didn't change the Q3 update won't be going to 25.x. The 1.0 will be going to 25.10 and 25.04 will be skipped.
  29. Where have you read that they are going to 25.anything? It would seem odd they would make a jump like that without us ever testing using that version.
