  1. Past hour
  2. finally found this thread after a lot of digging around
  3. Today
  4. looking at other threads and reddit didn't seem to clear much up. I did see some issues were truenas version related but mine is just at TrueNAS-24.10.0 which is the one that came with the hexos install iso I got from the site
  5. Can't claim my server in hexOS deck but I can connect to it no issues through trueNAS. it will just say looking for servers seemingly indefinitely on the hex deck. I've tried on both wired and over wifi and on different machines. I've even pointed it to the IP address through the hex deck setup tool and that doesn't seem to impact anything. is it just something I have to reinstall for? running low on troubleshooting ideas.
  6. well plex and immich are the two big program i want right now. truenas kept updating and changing everything, like 15 times in just a few years. i stayed on core version 10 or something for a long time before i finially updated. at each update point my networking config broke and i had to physically console in to cli and fix things. just a royal pita. so after a couple updates i just quit. then a couple weeks ago i decided it was time to go to scale with core being end of life. i moved up through the versions and to their credit the networking didnt break this time. however upon hitting fangtooth i came to find the tool tips for settings are a joke - "host path" took tip is "this is how you set host path". just zero effort put in on everything. they removed the majority of metric graphs, management interfaces, removed the ability to assign IP addresses... like its a SERVER OS... who the hell does that???? imo i suspect IX systems is trying to cut out feature sets from community edition to reduce its usage and make it far less capable in order to push their paid versions. everything they are doing makes perfect sense if the goal is to make community free edition a small side project of their company. so, im either going to have to build a new pool and backup to go back to core, find another os - perhaps hex? but i dont have time to be doing all this. i wanted to get away from the crazy price hikes of streaming services and google. i guess if id stayed on core i would not be in this situation....

    Plex Update

@Todd Miller i assume you are aware you can roll back the app updates if you do run into issues?
  8. @Duncan Innes Currently when the time comes, new features should be able to be turned on / off for specific users, so those eager to test the latest and greatest may be able to get that chance. I'm sure they'll be further updates on this in the future as we get closer to more frequent releases post V1.0. As for updates, i hope we'll have more news shortly, though if you haven't read it already, the Q1 Update from Jon, does it's best to explain why the team had to reevaluate their own timelines / plan after such a successful launch. So keep an eye out for future updates coming soon! 🙏🏻
  9. It would be nice if users were allowed to select which development stream they want to be a part of. Stable will obviously not become a thing until the 1.0 release, but when this happens it would be nice if we could choose whether to sit on Stable, Testing, or Dev software streams. With obvious caveats for buyer beware if you are in Dev or Testing streams. The number of users at sign-up suggests there are a lot of tech-savvy people here. This community could be leveraged in the form of much wider testing than is currently possible. Would also be neat to have a few more Blog updates than at present. Perhaps monthly? It's not a great feeling having paid for something, then getting sparse updates on how things are progressing. The way Immich presents it's Roadmap is very nice while keeping everything simple.
  10. Thanks for the advice, I will keep that in mind
  11. Terramaster hardware is designed to be used as a 24/7 NAS. A solid setup to start using HexOs. welcome!
  12. Welcome Happy to see you were able to figure out how to solve your problem. For media server i personally use jellyfin. pros its free less fluff Cons compared to plex less clients available no playstation app kinda annoying to get working on tizen (samsung tv) best way to watch on apple tv is using a paid 3rd party app (its what i use and i love it) streaming videos outside of network is not as easy
  13. Hello, I had ordered HexOS a while back and just recently picked up the necessary hardware. This is my first experience using a NAS and was especially interested in the potential of an off site storage if you have a friend with HexOS as well (and I do lol). After examining the carcass of my old PC I decided that I would probably want something newer to work and ended up buy a NAS from Terramaster instead of building my own as I like how compact it is and my old computer is on the older side. So i got the following: -> Terramaster F6-424; 6 Bay, N95 Quad-Core CPU, Dual 2.5GbE Ports -> Crucial 32 GB DDR5, 4800 MHz -> 2x Western Digital 500 GB NVMe's -> 4x Seagate Ironwolf 4TB (for now) The hardware was pretty easy to work with, there are several videos of people using/trying TrueNAS on a Terramaster. The install and setup was easy, the Guide on here was more than enough to get someone set up and great to reference just to make sure everything went smoothly. So far, the only thing that has given me any trouble is that I was getting odd restarts for apparently no reason, but I believe that was a compatibility issue with Terramaster that seems to have been fixed by some changes in the BIOS suggested elsewhere in this forum. Currently, my plans for this are limited to backing up my data and likely some kind of Media Server, but I may expand that as I learn more of what's out there and what I can or maybe should do.
  14. This is the goal, we aren't fully there yet. At this time we can only do this with Plex and immich but there are plans to rapidly increase the amount of apps this works with. At this time eshtek does not offer that. I think in a ltt video it was mentioned that such a service MIGHT be offered as part of a future subscription offering but there is no news on that yet. However a lot of is in this community try to help solve issues other users have in these forums. If there are problems the community can't help solve the hexos team does look into it. At this time outside of Plex and immich most everything has to be done in the underlying truenas ui but i imagine as hexos matures it'll be less and less reliant on getting things done in the truenas ui.
  15. i come from core, used it for years. JUST udpated to scale - i want off the truenas train, its god awful. i want to go to an app, click install, have it work. i have 36 drives, i3 12th gen, 10gb networking, various programs. truenas has had too many updates, paths, changes.... its been too much to keep up with and constantly trying to fix what updates break. it also has far less features than it did years ago to say nothing of a very limited amount of support and guides. im sure this is due to the constant changes as you can go back a few years and find all the guides you need... just now they are all irrelevant. i want a OS that i can call someone or have an active chat at least to help me through settings
  16. Yesterday
  17. I saw the updates here in TrueNAS not HexOS, though this is a bad example because there aren't any for me since my very recent rebuild. I have updated Immich from here twice. Anyone disagree or have a better way?
  18. I don't seen any update on the HEXOS page. Just trying to get Plex working better on the HEXOS PC. It slow to connect when outside the network or show unavailable.
  19. Sounds like a generous and solid plan. I had the same thoughts back then too. Thankfully i caved and bought 2 licenses.
  20. Right now the front runner plan is to use 1 of the T630s to replace my VM server (Precision T7810). Upgrade that T630 with 2x 20 core CPUs and make that my VM server. Then possibly "donate" the other T630 to a friend that has been wanting to upgrade/replace his older Synology NAS with the stipulation that I can use it as well as my offsite backup server vs paying Dropbox about $30.00 a month. Finally take the Precision T7810 (current VM server) and use that as my TrueNAS replication server. I knew I should have bought multiple HexOS licenses when they were $99 lol

    Plex Update

I've run a few updates and wasn't paying attention. What is the supported Plex version number?
  22. That's a great deal! What are your deployment/configuration plans?
  23. Last week

    Plex Update

    No worries
  25. Oops. In my message above I meant to link to a couple of the places it says don't update TrueNas yet but it seems I get ahead of myself. Sorry for any confusion.
  26. This may or may not help at all, but I had issues with connting to my server until I went into my router and reserved the IP that my server is using, If youdl did not do this right away and your router decided to give you a new IP then well your gonna have to set it up as a new server unless you know the IP you first used and manually assign it back to that server under the TrueNAS side. I also had an issue with network bridging when setting it up on the hexos side it will give out a new IP even if you have your router setup to only use a certain IP, so again you will have to go into the truenas side and manually assign the correct IP to that bridge, hopefully this will help someone, idk ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it might be something else all together but I'm kinda shooting in the wind with what little info that was provided.

    Plex Update

Updating TrueNas is not recommended at this moment. In many cases it will break HexOs.
  28. See nascompares.com. In the subsection TrueNas you will find a lot of guides. Also for Ugreen, Qnap, Asustor, ….
