  2. But to be clear, while it happens the most often to the most people it is not everyone and every time. There is probably a little more to it but if this gets you up and running, double thumbs up.
  3. Today
  4. It would also be great if we don’t have to play a guessing game on which apps need to be updated. Right now it just says 6 apps but not which ones
  5. Hello, It seems the after the update some systems on reboot are reaching out to our server so it doesn't know your there. Try the following. Login to TrueNAS interface. Left side select "system". Then after screen refreshes select "shell" from the list. Paste in the following command. Can't use normal short cuts Will need to use Shift + Insert Key for pasting. sudo python /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/middlewared/scripts/vendor_service.py If that works within about 1 min you should be able to go to deck.hexos.com and see your server or claim it.
  6. Thank you! I did not even try it with my OTP app since it states in the settings you specifically need Google Authenticator. That threw me off. But it works. Maybe they can re-word the setting description.
  7. Did you have any luck with this? im still stuck on the same issue despite changing to passthrough
  8. Having the same issue where this is a fresh install of HexOS, however https://deck.hexos.com/add-new-server/detecting cannot detect the server. I can ping the server I'm on the same network as the server The server has internet access The server has been rebooted like 20 times mDNS is enabled on HexOS and the UniFi network Tried both Brave and Chrome browser standard and incognito Since it was a fresh install, I figured maybe the version was bad so I changed from v25.04 to v25.10 but to no avail...Idk what else to try other than just managing it from the TrueNAS console directly since I can access the web GUI directly just fine.

  11. Really good question and concern. It all comes down to... "How easy do you want your life to be?" lol You have a few options. Port Forwarding: Simple but higher risk. Switch to Emby: Simple and allows for remote users, but it would require a license. Reverse Proxy: Systems like Nginx / Traefik / Caddy - Best balance of security and usability VPN: Services like Tailscale but adds a little more complication on their end. You would also need to buy more slots (3 is free) unless you spin up Wireguard.
  12. I had a false positive of an unhealthy drive previously in the HexOS UI, so I imagine they would provide some kind of similar functionality even if TrueNAS changes something under the hood.

  14. I think you hit it on the nail with "who do you trust"... I just wanted to bring it to the attention of the community because I was not sure how folks are monitoring the health of their drivers. I for one was relying on smart tests but once it was removed from the GUI it made me look for alternatives. The reason it was removed from the GUI according to truenas is because the majority of the pools being used are not machinal drives and the smart tests only apply to mechanical drives. I think moving forward I am going to use both, cron jobs for smart tests since mine are still mechanical drives and these tests are very much still relevant and also see what scrutiny has to say. having said that, I just would have loved single source of truth and I do think that bouncing back and forth between the 2 is not efficient and it needs to be clearly stated which is the gold standard (single source of truth).
  15. Sorry, my misstatement. If I am not mistaken, SMART is a technology built into drives. So if I have that right that means TrueNAS didn't "turn off" the testing, I just stopped listening. That being said and considering the fact that drive health is so important, I share your concern. It becomes a who do you trust in this case. Now, the bigger question is this. What do you want done about it? If this is a PSA and you are saying watch out for Scrutiny because you got conflicting results then you will need to find a better tool and Eshtek may have to reconsider it as a curated app. I'm sure if you find an app that is clearly better, the devs will add it to the list of app to be considered for curation. Others will also try it and those folks working on scripts as well may get something built sooner leaving the devs free to continue on their current assignments. If you are saying TrueNAS needs to add it back then good luck but you will need to take that to the TrueNas forums. I would think there is already a long discussion about why they pulled it. If you are saying HexOS should have monitoring built in, well there I think we part ways. It's not that I disagree about having the information. I just don't think the core HexOS tool is the place for it. Could they do it? Hm, they could certainly do something but why would they? I'm thinking that is why Scrutiny was curated so quickly. This way you can find something you like and trust and they get to spend more time working towards 1.0. For Eshtek this is another potential Immich situation in that something outside their control was changed/eliminated and they inherit the support and cleanup. I'm not trying to convince anybody they are right or wrong in their opinion here. I just want to remind everyone while this is still a small question that this is a business HexOS will be a curated version of what we ask for. If there is a major outcry for HDD monitoring, the devs will create it. If we want other built in technologies, we will probably get them. But at that point Eshtek may start asking who is going to pay for that. I don't want to get into that world like Plex and Jellyfin, where if I want something like a TV program guide I pay extra. It has been pretty clear from the beginning that this product is wrapper around TrueNAS to make management simpler. Maybe interpreter is another way to think of it. TrueNAS is not as complicated as we think. Yes dataset management can be hard. Yes security can be hard. Yes general upkeep can be hard so HexOS will take the edge of it, not replace it. Set aside the investment into the Anyraid project for the moment (my apologies if I got the name wrong). Beyond that there isn't anything really new within HexOS. No new technology, just a cleaner simpler way to manage TrueNAS. Ny local community college has three adult extension classes on TrueNAS development and management. Maybe I will have to take those classes yet because most debugging and fixes require you to go into TrueNas. But as for today I will keep an up to date backup of my data and the NAS and will keep watching Youtube videos when Plex stops allowing external access because like almost everything in my situation, that's just not a HexOS issue. SMART being removed isn't HexOS' fault. Immich wasn't HexOS' fault. The NAS not being able to connect... Well that might be HexOS' fault but we'll see. Lets let the devs finish the initial production release then see what is missing. In the meantime if you find a good backup package or SMART monitor or anything else you can't believe exists because it's so great, let everyone know. The HexOS repository has 300+ app and docker seems to have thousands throughout Github. Some of those packages have to be outstanding and HexOS just needs to run them, not reinvent them.
  16. Good morning, I tried to install your docker compose script (updated with my info) through the Dockge app, but got an error when trying to write to the volume path. I think there is a permission error somewhere, but I don’t know how to change that. Just wondering if you can help as I’m quite interested in setting up qbittorrent with a VPN.
  17. For anyone that has the issue if you can log into true nas you can actually change the version is boots from without having to hook up a monitor etc. in Truenas go to System then boot the you can click on a little checkmark on the right side of the version you want to use that says activate when you hover over it. After that you can restart the system from the little power icon on the top right corner of Truenas and it will boot in whatever version you selected.
  18. I'm running Jellyfin on my HexOS server and I'd like to share access to it with some family members. What's the best way to do that? I'm using Tailscale for myself when I need to connect to it remotely. But it's not ideal to share access to the server through Tailscale, because when I do, they get access to the media folders as well if they type in the right IP address and have the ability to delete files. None of them would delete anything on purpose but I want to prevent any potential accidents. So how do you guys share external access to your server with family?
  19. I do not think smart tests are incorporated in scrutiny because one of my disks is reporting a failed status in scrutiny yet is passing with flying colors (No errors) in smart tests (Ran through shell).... scrutiny: S.M.A.R.T test:
  20. S.M.A.R.T tests must be incorporated in some way otherwise what is Scrutiny using? It doesn't seem to run it's own tests yet is says it get updates at 7pm today (and it says that every day).
  21. It sounds like there are still alerts of some sort, surely they are comparable.
  22. I was surprised when I was unable to find the built in tool S.M.A.R.T tests in the GUI for testing your drives in true NAS. NOTE* You should still be able to run in cron jobs 25.10 (Goldeye) Version Notes | TrueNAS Documentation Hub How do you guys feel about this feature being removed?
  23. Same here, worked fine yesterday but now it doesn't probably because I updated 😞 thankfully I'm running it on Proxmox and was able to select the previous version in boot menu
  24. I have the same issue. Truenas itself and Apps work fine, no deck. Checked access to api.hexos.com from shell, its reachable via IPv4 (no v6 at my place)
  25. Hi everyone, this moring i though of a very good feature to add: gluetun + qbittorrent through a docker compose, just need to implement an interface where you select your vpn provider and fill the needed infos, you can add port forarding through the yaml install script ( for example for proton vpn) and i think i could be a very good option for the users who doesn't know how to setup a thing like this. i add below an example of a yaml docker compose file (mine): services: gluetun: cap_add: - NET_ADMIN container_name: gluetun devices: - /dev/net/tun:/dev/net/tun environment: - VPN_SERVICE_PROVIDER=custom - VPN_TYPE=wireguard - WIREGUARD_PRIVATE_KEY=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX - WIREGUARD_PUBLIC_KEY=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX - WIREGUARD_ADDRESSES=10.2.0.2/32 - VPN_ENDPOINT_IP=185.246.211.193 - VPN_ENDPOINT_PORT=51820 - VPN_DNS_ADDRESS=10.2.0.1 - VPN_PORT_FORWARDING=on - VPN_PORT_FORWARDING_PROVIDER=protonvpn - WIREGUARD_MTU=1420 - FIREWALL_OUTBOUND_SUBNETS=192.168.1.0/24 image: qmcgaw/gluetun:latest ports: - '8080:8080' restart: unless-stopped volumes: - /mnt/HDDs/Applications/gluetun:/gluetun - /mnt/HDDs/Applications/gluetun:/tmp/gluetun gluetun-qbittorrent-port-manager: environment: HTTP_S: http PORT_FORWARDED: /tmp/gluetun/forwarded_port QBITTORRENT_PASS: password QBITTORRENT_PORT: 8080 QBITTORRENT_SERVER: localhost QBITTORRENT_USER: admin image: snoringdragon/gluetun-qbittorrent-port-manager:latest network_mode: service:gluetun restart: unless-stopped volumes: - /mnt/HDDs/Applications/gluetun:/tmp/gluetun qbittorrent: container_name: qbittorrent depends_on: - gluetun environment: - PUID=568 - PGID=568 - TZ=Europe/Paris - WEBUI_PORTS=8080/tcp image: ghcr.io/hotio/qbittorrent:latest network_mode: service:gluetun restart: unless-stopped volumes: - /mnt/HDDs/Applications/qbittorrent_vpn/config:/config - /mnt/HDDs/Applications/qbittorrent_vpn/data:/data - /mnt/HDDs/Downloads/qbittorrent:/downloads version: '3.9'
  26. For this, the fix was to in HexOS go into Settings > Reset > Unclaim System. Then reclaim the server and it should be fine. From what I can tell it gets like that because when you reclaim the server before restoring the config backup in TrueNAS the API key is different than what HexOS has so when you reclaim the server it checks and see the API key in TrueNAS and uses that. Sidenote if you are importing your config file back into TrueNAS for the apps if they are gone and nothing happens after you set the pool, try unsetting (unset pool) then select the pool again it and then it takes a bit to run through the HDDs and bam it comes back.
  27. You can use any other authenticator/TOTP app, if your problem is with the Google one in particular. There is 2FAS, Aegis/Raivo and a Microsoft Authenticator too. And many more.
  28. Little new update, I found the eMMC installation trick presented here: So I unclaimed my server and went back to the Bootable USB drive installation to redo the installation. The message I get when typing sed -i 's/tries=30/tries=130/' /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/truenas_installer/install.py is sed: can't read /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/truenas_installer/install.py When I'm trying to find the location of install.py with find / .name install.py 2>dev/null it tells me that there's no such file or directory.
  29. Uh-oh Just realized I might've posted this in the wrong section of the forum, apologies for that! And I just checked, the one disk that shows up, says - Disk 1 CT2000P3PSSD8
